Default ATC 250r

I am buying an ATC250r for sand and drag purposes. What years were good or bad? and will it be fast enough to be pretty competetive if I get it piped, ported, bigger carb, high compression and after market reeds/cages? My plan is to make it low to the ground, wide, and long. It will do a little turf duty but probably never go in the woods, thats what I have the warrior for.

85 and 86 were the fastest years. Both are liquid cooled and would be good dune drag performers due to their light weight.

Jakal, if you port, polish, get a drag pipe, v force reeds, and then convert to alky, you will have yourself a killer machine. I have been waiting for the right 250r to come around for me to make a dragster out of. Guess you beat me to the punch. Have fun!!!

Jackle,
A guy that works in our shop build an 86 250r, he had the 330 kit, stroker crank, stroker rod, Ported Polished,Ceramic Coated Piston because it ran methanol, Dual Cabs,Pipe, Reeds, 2 shot NOS System, Extended Swingarm,Extended Axel, Dropped it down in the front, Custom wheelie bar and alot more. The first time they got it running and took it out on the asphalt and he got it up about 9 grand dropped the hammer this thing had wheel hop and i mean the thing jumped, as soon as it did he stopped right there and got off and said he didnt want any parts of that, so they found a rider and they had a single carb on with the NOS and first time it came in it scattered, rebuilt it with double carbs and it was fine. Would run 100 foot dirt drag in about 4 seconds, not much around here that could touch it, had an easy top speed of 120-140. so yeah they can be fast how much u wanna spend.
