Hey you guys,
I am a newbie to this board and I have a few questions about the TRX 250R. First off I have heard that 1987 was the best year they were made. What were the differences in the years they made them? I know there is tons of mods out there for this quad. How light were they and what are some pros and cons? I am thinking about purchasing one of these after I outgrow my YZ80. When I sell my bike and my 250 Recon.

the 88' and 89' models were the best of the 250rs because they handled better and had a little bit better of a motor than the 86'.87' had an almost identical engine as the 88'- 89'. the 89' is almost the same as the 88' with some updates in the transmission. so I would say the 89' is best and if I were you and there was an 89' in good condition for sale I would by it.

but anyway this is pretty much it
85-86 motors had a short rod and 87-89 motors had a long rod
87-89 motors had a bridged intake port and 85-86 didnt making a little more power but not a reliable
86-87 had a 1 inch longer swing arm than 88-89 a shorter swing arm makes the center of gravity more
to the rear so it handles a little better or something like that
oh and gear ratios were changed troughout the 4 years
