I was wondering which 250R is the fastest?
Were the air cooled models faster than the water cooled ones? Was any year in particular better/faster.

 

The 86 ATC 250R was the fastest. Also being liquid cooled they were alot better in response to mods. But if you want the fastest trike get a an 86 Tecate three wheeler. They didn't handle as good as the R but they were faster. In the 16 years I have riden ATVs I have found Kawasaki's have the best acceleration and honda has the best handeling.

 

I had a friend tell me the same thing about a Tecate,I didn't know they were so fast. Mine is an 85 ATC 250R. You can't take off without it standing up,any ideas on a better takeoff?

 

I have an 86 trx250r and I smoked a tecate 4 last weekend. are the tecate 3's as fast as a tecate 4. my dad used to race 3 wheeler's and he had 2 atc 250r's an 85 for flatrack and an 86 for harescrambles. to keep the front end down lean way over the front and this should help a little. my dads best freind has a tri-z 250 that beat s my cousin's freinds tecate-3 all the time. I have not raced the teacate 3 yet due to my 250r was blown up when he came over and now my 250r is fixed and his tecate is blown so I'll have to wait to beat him.remeber ride red ride smart and most importantly ride hard!!!!!!!!

 

I once had a friend who raced tell me that the fastest 250R quad was an 88, but not just stock. Its with a CR gasket, and an 86 250R atc tranny. I have no idea if it's true.

 

I would have to say thats a line of BS but the CR gasket may help u get more compression which means higher octance gas and Im not sure which CR 250 gasket it would be

 

Tecate 3-wheelers are insane! my buddy had either an 86' or an 87.it would pull the best dissapearing acts I ever seen! I wouldn't ride it

 

my 86 atc 250r which I just put new tires on after it sat in a barn for the last 7 or 8 years clocked out at a top speed of 86 beside a streetbike on pavement. In fact, it is just about neck and neck out of the line with a older ninja 500 until I hit top speed. btw, the trike is stock.
