250ex vs. lakota
#11
I ride a 250ex all the time, my friend has one and we go trail riding every weekend. I have rode a lakota about 5 times my sisters boyfriend has one. THE 250EX IS GUTLESS. A lakota is so much more powerful and more stable. It will beat a 300ex stock the 250ex won't come close to a 300ex. The Honda would probably be really reliable I mean Honda has been making things for a long time and have lots of experience and great reputation. I'd go with the 250ex, I love honda's. I just told you facts about the Lakota not opinoin

ONLYHONDAS,
I just got done putting the wheel spacers on my kids 250EX. They are SWEEEEEET!!!!! The machine is a lot more stable than stock. I tried to get it tippy on side hills with no luck. I widened it 3" in the front and 5" in the back. It is also more stable doing doughnuts in the snow (hey, I'm 39 years old but still like to have fun!).

The Honda 300 and the 90 are the only Honda Quads left with the real high price parts. The 250ex fenders are $82.00 for the front and 80.00 for the back. Look at the Suz. and Kaw. Z400. Front fenders $199.00 rears are $337.00.

For some reason i do not think a lakota will beat a 300ex. For the first thing, the mojave is faster than the lakota. The mojave and the 300ex are about exactly the same. Since that is true, the 300ex is faster than the lakota.

I've had the recon and ridden the 250EX. Hands down I liked the lakota better by far. It's much heavier than the EX, but handles very nice.
My decission was based on the huge amount more of tourque the lakota offers over the EX. I believe for woods riding the tourque is much more needed when runing streams and over logs. The lakota out climbs the EX on hills to.
Either is good I wouldn't let it hold you up for long thow.

NovaKaw650,
The spacers were Dura Blue, I ordered them from Rec Unlimited. They were about $80 for the fronts and $80 for the rears. They are titanium and urethane in makeup. The nice thing is that you don't have to go as wide as I did. I went 3" wider in the front and 5" wider in the back. That may sound like an excessive amount, but it really looks good. It gives the quad a racier look than before and is a lot more stable than stock. Some will say they don't make them for the 250EX, but all you need to do is to order the 4/110 bolt pattern for the rear hubs and 4/144 for the front.
A word of advise. For the fronts, the hubs and disc brakes will have to come off in order to get the old press in studs out and the new longer bolts in. On the rear hubs it might be best to use a little heat to expand the hub before you start hammering the press in studs out. A propane torch should work just fine.
