I own a 250X, and when it was stock I could whoop my friends Wolverine NO PROBLEM!! I beat it in Top speed, Acceleration, handling, jumping, and even trail riding. Me and my friend are about the same skill when it comes to riding so if we had the same quads we would be even. Go with the 300EX don't bother wasting money on the wolverine because the tires suck, the suspension is garbage, and it doesnt' have much power for a 4X4. Instead of paying extra for the Wolverine put the extra money into trail breaker tires for the 300EX (if you want the bike for alot of mud, water, and rough stuff) And besides isn't Honda reliability enough to make your decesion?

HONDA RIDE RED

1987 Honda Fourtrax 250X - DG pipe, K&N filter, Airbox vents, rejetted carb., Trail Breaker rear tires, Pure Sport Bandit fronts, etc....

1989 Honda 250R - Trinity 330 motor kit, full Lonestar suspension, Pure Sport Bandit Tires F/R, etc...

A Honda 300ex or a Wolverine, hmmm …

You are asking for opinions but as usual it depends on what you want to use it for. As to top speed it has to be the 300ex but there are many other considerations.

First off you must ask yourself why would you really want a 4X4. For mud maybe snow or the better to pull something. I for one would avoid mud if possible even if I were riding a 4X4. After all, I would have to wash all that mud off the bike and myself later anyway. Imagine getting back into your truck to haul it pack after being on a trail ride. Yes, I suppose we all get a little dirty anyway, but if you hit a mud hole just for fun it’s MUCH worse.

For snow, well this one is tempting but I decided those ski and track kits would be better for the Sierras anyway and if its patchy I wouldn’t need tracks or 4X4.

To pull something, well I was raised on and own a ranch and I have a tractor, pickups and all that stuff around the barnyard anyway.

The 300ex has a better suspension travel, weighs less (108lbs lighter), doesn’t have a bunch of U joints to fail or a front diff to fill up with water and will be more fun to ride in most conditions.

I say 300ex, your situation maybe different.

I killed a 250cc polaris with a racing pipe and A 250x. The only one that is faster is my friends 400ex.

99 Wolverine
97 King Quad
both have no mods
Jump high, ride hard, go DEEP!

I could see it being a close race if the wolverine was a manual. It has the same engine as the warrior except it is semi auto instead of manual.
