2002 foreman es under water for a day

Default 2002 foreman es under water for a day

How much damage has my forman es sustaned being under water for a day.

Default 2002 foreman es under water for a day

I did not do it my brother did it , I guess it,s down a pretty steep ravene. and very very hard to get to. I guess the only way i am going to know is when we get it out tommarrow.

Obviously the air filter is going to need some work. I don't really know alot, but I figure it will be ok with a good run through it. Aren’t' brother's great!! Maybe somebody with more knowledge than me can give you details. It's probably ok man.

First thing I would do is put the bike on it's a$$ end to let the water drain out of the muffler and pipe. Pull your air filter and dry it out drain the air box, gas tank, and the carb. Refill with good fuel and put some gas line antifreeze or something that removes fuel from water in with the fuel. Then dump the oil in the engine and change the oil filter. DO NOT try to start it or crank it over. After you have the oil drained or while it is draining pull out the sparkplug and pull it over by hand with the pull start to get all the water above the piston out. If you don't pull the spark plug and try to crank it, you will just cause damage to your engine, bent valves, stripped sparkplug hole when it blows your plug out-etc. Also dump all your other fluids including coolant as there is a good chance you got swamp water in everything. Better safe then sorry. Oil is cheap! Refill everything except the engine with good new fluids. Then mix engine oil 50/50 with diesel and put it in your engine. Crank it over with the electric start if it will with the plug still out a couple of times to make sure all the water is out of it. Put the plug back in and wait for the magic to happen. If you get it running, let it run for 5 to 10 minutes with the 50/50 mix and then dump it, refill with straight engine oil. Repeat. After that most of the oil and water should be gone. Change your oil filter again and refill with good oil and you should be good. If your oil still looks milky after it is warmed up you may still have some water in it and will need to repeat this process. Hopefully, you won't have any electrical problems. I am not sure about the 50/50&gt;&gt;&gt; mix engine oil 50/50 with diesel&lt;&lt;&lt;&lt;

Why not just use cheap oil in total?

Just wondering.

Diesel helps remove the water from the engine as it is lighter than oil so will get into smaller orfices, crevices, cracks better then oil. These are places where water molecules like to hide. It is all chemistry really. Different sizes of molecules. Water being the largest, the chemicals in diesel being the smallest. Any petroleum product that is lighter that oil would also work, it is just that diesel is cheaper and safer than say gasoline. I have seen diesel engines that have had diesel mixed with the oil due to faulty fuel injection systems and you should see how clean the inside of those engines were! I wouldn't run it permanently like that though as diesel is obviously not as good a lubricant as oil. I personally have owned quads that have been swamped and just kept changing and changing the oil and was still getting water in it. I ran diesel through it 50/50 once and never had any more water problems. Diesel will also not damage the wet clutch manual transmission eitheir. At least I haven't heard of any problems yet. Not sure about the rincon or rubicon trannys though.

I also use a 50/50 mix, just dont let it run for very long even though alaska people run it all winter, Diesel seems to fetch water out of tight berrings better. ALSO, Dump both diff oil's and dont froget to greese the swingarm and steering head berrings...... your battery will also loose some acid along with ingesting some nasty water and it will probley die withen a year......joe

Very true, but if its a seriouly sludged engine and someone puts diesel, or it gets in there somehow all the sludge will break free and plug the filter pickup screen! A friend siezed up a 96' dodge cummings that was abused by the previous owner while trying to clean up the engine with motor flush....yikes! thats one costly mistake even though it takes alot of sludge (like 4" in the bottom of the pan) to cause harm.

sdk is really on the ball !!! everything he wrote is right!! diesel has a natural tendency to attract water.(which is one reason 18 wheeler drivers want fresh fuel)

there is a vent line from the carb that loops up into the rubber cover over the carb and air box that stabs into a plastic hole. pull the line out and blow hard into it and it will clear some water from the carb bowls.

its probably still gonna sputter a while,but do not fear these bikes are made to take a lot of abuse
