How many of us are left?

raptor8,
I'm with you on this. To call what the pros are winning with TRX 250Rs, is like calling the winning Winston cup car a Monte Carlo. I once asked a question to a NASCAR driver upon looking at his car, "If this is a Stock car, what the heck is stock on it?" Funny how I didn't get an answer from him. When you replace every part on a TRX 250R, is it still a TRX 250R? When the pros are spending upwards of $20,000 on a race quad and replacing the frame, motor, plastic seat, tank, wheels, axles, tires, etc, why not just call it the "Fud Pucker 2000" instead of a TRX 250R?
I too remember the old days when European MX machines were the best. Ah, steel fenders / gas tanks, low pipes, and wide seats those were the days! Husquvarna, Maico (you break-o, we no take o), Montessa, KTM - Penton, Bultaco were kings of the sport. The Japanese were still just the up starts of the day, mostly making an inferior product to the Euros. Now it's the other way around.

hey MIke,
ah yes, the good old days. when Husky made an mxer with the rear gas tank mounting stud sticking up 2" between the seat and the tank, when maico made front brake cables too short, so when you jumped, the front wheel locked, when the spaniards put the kickstarters and shifters on the wrong sides...remember AMAL carbs? wow! 3 moving parts and none of them worked! and 3" of travel?
and those dkw springer fronts that weighed 200 lbs? man, those were the days. no wonder i own a 1929 model A. it keeps me focused on how far ahead we are now.
thanx for the memories!

raptor8,
Here's a blast from the past. MX LEATHER RIDING PANTS! Mostly they were in black. Could you imagine how hot they got in the summer? OUCH! I remember the days of Roger Decosta and Hekki Mikolai (sp). Those were the days that the Euros ruled everything. Mc Grath wasn't old enough to ride, and Carmichael wasn't even a gleam in his daddy's eye.
Yep the old bikes were something a MAN had to ride. None of this sissy 12+ inches of travel, no we had 3-4" maximum and were thankful of it because we didn't know any better. Twin rear shocks, drum front and floating rear drum brakes are all things of the past. Bikes weighed up to 300 lbs and nothing on it was made of plastic, aluminum, carbon fiber or titanium. What was really amazing was that they rode 30 minute motos on them (45 minutes for Grand Prix). Nowadays kids think anything longer than 20 is too long. Ah, youth!

I'm still loving my 89R which is basically stock except for the Elka suspension. My brother also owns 2 87TRX R's, one restored, running 350 powervalve motor and the other is in pieces, waiting to be put back together in stock form. He also owns 86 ATC 250R.
I recently sold an 89 quadracer, which I liked, but I feel there is no comparison to the TRX.
My brother recently sold a banshee and a 99 400EX and heres a list of 3 wheelers hes owned(some hes owned a few of)85 200X,85 & 86 250R, 85 & 86 350X, 86 200S.
The 2 of us still love any of the old rides I have mentioned and have a hard time passing one up for the right price.

BTW--if I take a 69 camaro and do mods to the motor, manual valve body tranny, new 12 bolt posi rear w/new gears, suspension upgrades, new paint job, aftermarket tires and rims etc.. am I no longer driving a 69 Camaro..
Its the same idea with most of us R owners(not pro's who for the most part their aftermarket parts have all been manufactured in the last few years -minus engine cases)!
