Is the 250EX for me?

You'll be able to jump the 250 just fine. I did hear that the a-arms were a little weak and to watch out for them, but so far 2 years and numerous riders and jumps later and ours is still going strong. My only dislike is that it doesn't have any grease fittings on it. After a while you'll have to remove the shocks and a-arms for a good cleaning and greasing. I used some boat wheel bearing grease do to its water resistance, and its cured all of the squeaks.

I bought the machine for it's bulletproof nature. Shaft drive, push rod motor (no chains at all on this machine) and Honda's vaunted reliability. Kids can be notoriously hard on a machine the goes without maintenance for ---several months

This is me. I just ride the crap out of the machine, and unfortunately I do not know how to do maintenance (I really wish I knew, and maybe someday will take a mechanics class or something). But its reliability and barely any maintenance shaft drive are my reasons for wanting this machine in the first place. If not for that, I would probably go with the 300 for some more power.

I put softer rate progressive springs on mine and it softened it out quite a bit. I jump mine all the time and it gives me no problem. It will definitely feel and act more sporty than the utes. I ride with a friend with a 650 and usually he is pushing to keep up with me unless its a straight line trail. I have also found that going with a good set of mud tires makes it a decent mud machine due to the light weight of the 250.
