I also have a 99 450es.The only thing I know is different on the 02 model is the traxloc and the shocks are a little different,I rode an 02 and could not tell any difference in the ride. There is not enough difference between them for me to want to upgrade. How many miles do you have on your 450?If the selectable 4x4 is what you want, get a warn 424.I have it on my Rubi and it works great. The display on the 450s does not show you what gear your in.

I have a 2003 Honda 450S and I love it. The traxloc is great, the display is nice, overall great machine. I'm going to get new tires in the fall when my stock tires wear out( I hope). I've heard that the 450 is a very reliable machine, I hope to find out. Now just to get my left handlebar straigtened out after the "incident"....

Those bikes should be about the same. VERY reliable, bullet proof. An excellent utility bike. I owned a '00 450-S, and miss it sometimes!
That is a he!! of a good price on the used one for sale in Indiana! You would do well to check THAT one out!
Good Luck, Mike.

I have a '98, very reliable machine, I added a warn 424 unit and '03 Rubicon headlights to update it a little. The S comes with a full digital display, only difference is that the ES also diplays what gear your in, the S does not.
