I have a '00 300EX. I bought the 300EX over the 400EX because most of the riding I do is trail (tight trail) riding. I'm looking for some power increases and need some input from some of you that have made mods or know someone that has made mods to a 300EX. I'm thinking about installing a K&N kit (filter, jets, ect...). Are there other air box kits out there? Also, what is the best head pipe/exhaust system for the 300EX. I have heard that the Powroll and the White Brothers head pipes are good. What's the best exhaust? White Brothers, FMF, Big Gun, Supertrapp etc...
Please keep in mind I need a quite system also because of the places I ride.
One other thing, What would be a good rear tire to replace the balloon tire that came from the factory. I ride on all types of terrain.
Thanks for any Information.

Ok here goes: The K&N is ok, but I prefer the Uni filter. All the pipes are ok that you mentioned I think, but from what I hear supertrapp is probaly best. I like my FMF and have a friend with a cobra that makes quite a bit more power. I also like the Maxis Razr tires for woods riding.

The best thing for you maybe to get a piston-cam combo and keep your stock exhaust. That way, you get a power increase. But still are quiet. Any aftermarket exhaust is going to be LOUD!
Any aftermarket tire is going to be a plus in the traction dept. But the ride becomes much more harsh with a stiffer side-walled tire.

Try a 14 tooth front sprocket, makes a nice improvement.

You have some good ideas here, JT. I have a 300EX with a Powroll header and a stock muffler and the noise level is almost stock. I also have a K&N filter (the best) with a Moto-Force 'open-style' air box lid. Had to re-jet the carb to a #128 main jet and it's sweet now. The stock header pipe is too restrictive to get any power from. And the foam air filter is just a PIA. If you use the open air box lid, just be mindful of high water crossings and at washing time. The next mod that I plan on is to change the camshaft to a higher-lift unit than stock, as the 300EX is really 'under-cammed'. Hope my views help to get you up to speed.

I know this topic came up before and i don't remember seeing it answered. You say you use a powroll header with stock silencer. hmmm i understand the header will be lesee restrictive, but doesn't the silencer still restrict the exit of the exhaust. Its seems if would not gain any exhaust flow. Maybe more back pressure, maybe not though ??
What does everyone else think of this.. I think its a great idea to keep the noise down and the power level higher. If it works I will be looking into it. Is the increase of power compareable between aftermarket header/stock silencer to aftermarket header/aftermarket silencer ?? What are the pros and cons ??

Thanks
