I bought a 250x from my cousin last year really cheap. The problem was it had spun the main bearing on the crankshaft. Well i took it apart and gears in the bottom end went everywhere. I got a service manual and all new parts and put it back together just like the book said and i cant get it to shift gears. Before it messed up i had rode it once and first gear was not working, it was like it was skipping a tooth or something but none of the gears were messed up. Does anyone know why i cant get it to shift or what might fix my problem other than a new motor?

Make sure you have all the gears and washers alligned perfectly on the tanny shafts. Make sure that you have all the pawls and caps and springs together on the left side of the engine on the shift drum installed correctly. You could have any number of different things wrong that's giving you the problems you're having. When everything has to go together perfectly or else it can spell disaster. If I were you I'd crack it back open and start from scratch and make sure you have everything installed right.
