Default 440 Carb. problems

Does anyone know where I can send my 400EX carb. to be calibrated for a 440. I got it all back together and she won't run. The anxiety is killing me and I need it running for Snake Hunt. Not much time, need help fast.

Default 440 Carb. problems

I have had my carb. completely apart and cleanes everything, 170 is the biggest jet I got. I talked to a guy who said he had a 440 and his ran off a 150 main jet. I'm stumped.

Default 440 Carb. problems

Where can I get some jets bigger than a 170? I have gas in the float bowl and I'm getting good spark. Is it possible to take my 170 main jet and drill it bigger to see if that is my problem? My theory is that drilling the jet bigger doesnt work then buying a bigger jet would waste time and money. I heard that on a 400EX the points are setup in such a way that the spark plug fires every time the piston reaches top dead center (TDC). If this is correct then it would make it impossible to get my cam 180 degrees out. Is this correct? How big of an effect would having your cam one tooth off, advanced or retarded? Enough to keep it from running? I have used the coil and plug off another running 400EX with no difference at all. I wont sleep until we figure this out so please hurry. I really need to know if I can drill my jet little by little to see if I need a bigger jet, if someone knows, please let me know.

Did you check your spark plug? Is it sparking good? Is it wet with gas? Do you have compression? If there is gas getting into the cylinder, you have good spark through the plug, and you have compression, the only thing I can think of is a timing problem.

Is it firing at all?

I can get it to run now after a lot of wierd tweaking on the carberator. I raised my needle two spaces, I turned my idle mixture screw out but it still won't idle. I'm ordering and FCR 41mm today and gettingit shipped next day air. We will see what that does. If it don't run after that, the whole motor gets pulled out of the frame and replaced by the feared, the all-powerfull, the king of sick power, 250R motor. Sorry for the excessive use of adjectives but I've always wanted to try an R motor out on the track. Maybe I could ride it better than my 400EX. I hope the carb. solves the problem because only 3 guys we ride with are two strokes. They are all three faster than me, when I beat 'em, I wanna be on a 4-stroke. Just a passion of mine I guess.
