What kind of racing, and what kind of money are you looking to spend?

Sure it can, it all depends on how much you wanna pour into it. I hope you plan to keep it forever though, cuase no one will pay 10 grad for a 300Ex no matter how tricked out it may be. First, suspension all the way around, then bore it to at least 330, add a cam, high compression piston, valve springs, exhaust, air filter, some tires and wheels, port and polish, adjustable axle, longer swingarm, extended a-arms (+2 wide and +1 forward), basically the same stuff you are gonna do to any full blown race quad. Its not gonna compete with a modded 400EX or 250r of course, but in the 350four stroke class, you should compete quite well.

yep!! those mods would do it. A 400ex w/ pipe mod wouldn't be able to keep up too easily. Actually, the 300ex w/ minor mods like a pipe, tires, handle bars, steering damper and "stickers" can EASILY keep up with stock 400ex in rough, tight technical terrain and hills. In my case, my 300ex w/ above mods with my 150lb body keeps up pretty well with my 190lb buddy and his stock 400ex. We both are very aggressive riders and ride in the Mojave area. The quads take a hell of a beating and we're very competitive. The quads are also very reliable because they aren't to "tricked" out. Sometimes it only takes the rider to make people think he/she is on a race quad. Friends will come up and say "Dude, that's stock?" after watching us race and chase each other around. What's the point in all this... I don't know.. maybe it's to show that sometimes it's the rider the makes the impression... not the quad. What's the point in spending all the money in the world on something if you can't use it towards it's full potential?. But,I hope to modify my lil' 300 a bit more with a cam, piston, clutch and carb mods too..oh yeah, since more power equals more heat an oil cooler will also be in the line-up. Anyways, good luck and sorry if I didn't make sense.

I race sometimes in Missouri Harescrambles, and this is what I did. I first scrapped the whole idea of even trying to make a 300EX motor fast, and found a 350X motor and had whole thing gone through by a professional Honda mechanic. (who is also a good friend of mine so it didn't cost me anything but a 12 pack). Then I had it bored one over, 12:1 compression piston, heavey duty valve springs, mild cam, and a little port work. Then I made a bracket so I could mount 250R shocks up front, but the rear is still stock because I am having trouble finding a good deal on a 350X swingarm and shock. I can hang pretty well with the 400EX's, and am sometimes faster if it's a bigger rider. It is a real good setup, but it absolutely sucks kick starting it. I guess that's the price you pay to be fast sometimes

make a 300ex motor fast. easy first U got to have it bored and stroked to 405 then put a hoter cam axhaust tires wheels axle a-arms pep shocks and leager's +2 swing arm 400ex carb with dyno jet kit k&N filter. a 400ex of any kind should not be able to touch it. I have a 300ex everything is stock. I enjoy it wheelie capabilities as well as it suspension if I want to go fast I hop on my dads LT500R or my 250r. this might be expensive but I'm sure U will be satisfied
