The price that you were quoted is very close to the price they quoted me for my new Rancher at $150. I think that it's a crock and they are only going to have about $10 in materials. If I knew anything about valve adjustment (or checking the valves for that matter) I would tell them where to go. I just hope that their guy knows more than me. Oh well, I have less than 1 mile on the quad and I don't thenk I'm going to worry about that for at least another 149.
Tell us what you did........pay for the service or not?????
ps....I have a good mechanic and may think about paying him $25 to check the valves and he even gives receipts.

Valves are easy. Make shure the motor is cold. Remove the valve caps. Turn the motor in the direction of rotation. Bump the starter to make shure of the right way. When the intake valves go down and come back up keep turning the motor to top dead center. The way I like to fnd top is to put a small screw driver in the spark plug hole and when it stops coming up and starts going down betwee the two is top dead center. Then you set intake and exhaust at the same time On four valves use two feler gages at the same time so the rocer arm will not **** and gave a false reading. Just take your time so the gage will just slide between the adjusters. It is real easy. Most newer Hondas are .004 in.

My quads were dropped off yesterday for there 20 hour service. The price was $110 + parts + tax. The labor rate at the shop is $55 an hour.

Well see how much the out the door cost is when I pick them up. The bad thing is I have to go a week without riding!

Why do you guys pay for 1st service? If your dealer is to cheap to give you a free service on your bike, find a real dealer that will.

I get my first 3 services for free. My dealer told me to bring it in after the first 10 hours, is that right?

That's odd, my dealer did it for free after the first 15 hours of use. I thought that is was part of buying a Honda. Guess I was wrong.

Just dropped off my 250x to have the shop look it over and change oil and all the other stuff they do. But they charge $60 per hour. I can change the oil no problem, but I want a pro doing anything else that needs to be done.

My dealer said " bring it in just before the 6 mo. warrenty expires." It will cost $58 and they will go completely through it. He did say that "other" dealers usually charge in the $158 range and don't do much besides change the oil.

My 100 mile checkup was $50.00 an hour, or 150.00, plus oil for 5.90, plus filter 6.99, total 162.89. Way too much and the mechanic was slow... like he was dragging out the time.
On a positive note, he found the valves a little out of adjustment and the card on the lean side. He fixed both, and it does appear to have helped.
I'm ordering a Honda service manual for 40.00 and will do it myself the next time. Honda themselves should look into this atrocity the dealers are pulling on their clients. Some post here indicate some dealers are providing this first service free. I guess that's why their clients call them "good dealers"! Wish I had one!!
