I rebuilding my R, but I cant get this swingarm bolt out for the life of me.

I was thinking of sawzall'n it out, but then I would think i need a press to get the rest ouf of the swingarm. Im gonna try my air hammer to but I doubt it will budge

Any other suggestions?

 

air hammer. don't turn it if its stuck you might twist and weaken bolt or break it. i tried press and before i knew it the frame tabs the bolt goes threw were bending.

 

Take a hacksaw and cut it in four places . The swingarm will fall right out .You will need to buy a new bolt.I have had to do this four times on bikes I have rebuilt.What ever you do do not hit it with a large hammer you will bend the frame .

That is a very common problem on Honda sport quads. To keep it from happening again, take it out once a year, and coat it with anti-seize, or a good synthetic grease.

 

And when you go to buy a new swing arm pivot bolt, get it for a 400EX, they are the same bolt, not too many people realize that. They are 1/3 the cost as well. You can get the 400EX bolt from service honda for $19 bucks.

Anyone ever put a zerk ont he swingarm or bolt?

Brian, Thanks I was wondering about the 400ex bolt, saves me like $40, I was gonna get the one on ebay for like $60 but that one is stainless. $20 sounds A LOT better,

aftermarket swingarms have zerks in them. We used a yz250 bolt in our old duner...lol it fit perfect

 

I feel for you man.I battled with a swingarm bolt off an 89 TRX for a week.....Sawzall saved the day after wearing out like 3 Sawzall blades.Good Luck....late,zubbeyboy
