how hard will it be to make a 500r (CR500 engine in a 250r frame)

Guess i'm a know it all too... Oh well, Let him build one and find out the hard way... CTATV asked for advice... we gave some. For $4k, I'll send Devil Man a picture along with the quad!
This message board is for the exhange of knowledge, I've learned quite a bit from here... and I'm hoping to give some too... That's what this is all about!
We're not here to bash any particular brand or any of that... just share our experiences, so take it for what it's worth Devil Man.
The CR had been wildly ported, and the pipe was hand built by a guy named Munchmore out of Utah (I THINK) The swing is a +6 running paddle masters... It's a real bitch to start due to the high compression... Runs great other than the constant level of maintainence (Work on it for 15 minutes for every 5 minutes of ride time)... The vibration isn't my main complaint... IT's the unreliabiliity.... But 1/2 day of riding results in numb hands and forearms from the vibes.
I'm hoping to find out what the little 250 Honda motor is capable of this summer.. Can't swing a new jug from ESR, so thinking of a big bore sleeve and some wild porting on methanol.. Should be interesting. Have any suggestions?
I Agree with you on the dyno data... very similar to statistics...
Mojave300EX: I've wondered the same thing too... but if you look at the frame design, you'll begin to see major differences. The bikes use a cradle design that has frame tubes attached to the head/triple clamp area versus the cage mounting of an ATV chassis. This cradle evidently dampens vibration to a tolerable level without the transfer to the handlebars... the motor vibrates whether it's in a bike or an ATV as it uses no counter balancer (like the stock quad motors)... I'm not a mechanical engineer, but I do know that without some serious design considerations This is not a good transplant... There are some companies out there that are re-designing the entire frame to address some of these issues.
Just my OPINION ($.02) here, so for what it's worth......

Dune addict ill share some advice, since im such a wealth of knowledge and FOS (full of sh*t). The muchmores are out of Roy, Utah. Randy ported your motor and the company name is K&T. If K&T did your motor i know its a strong strong motor. If your curious about a 250r based drag honda let me know, thats all i deal with.
Foreman, you can kiss my a$$ if you dont agree with what i have to say. Even if it is the truth. Just stick to your foreman huh, what the he!! would you know. Oh, and you spelled gnarly wrong....but what would i know, right?
Your right, all the guy asked for was advice and experience doing this motor. I gave him my experience with this motor and i got slammed for it. I dont know why, but i did. I guess with all the info and advice i have given on this forum, im just not a reliable source. Maybe ill just find another forum to help people on.

Beechman,
So I agree with you. My friend bought on of these 250R/500R quads that some guy put together. I am a big guy with at least a little experience and that quad is a joke. Yeah it is fast, but I I wouldn't ride it more than 15 mins. The thing vibrates so bad it almost hurts, and he has all the poly/rubber mounts everyone talks about. Every ride something is falling off or breaking.
DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS CONVERSION, come to Utah and ride my buddies, you will cange your mind really quick. In fact he will sell it to anyone who knows as little as he did when he bought it.
My buddy didn't know what he was getting into. The motor was shot shortly after he got it, he replaced everything. The old pipe dosen't fit anymore, I guess newer 500 cylinders have a different location for the ex.port. So he needs a pipe guy. The guy in Roy is who built the first one but we can't find his number .... do you know it?

Well I don't know. I usually go mountain camping that weekend and leave the quads at home (too many sand mods). But, they have been talking about having a all year long fire ban this year and that might be too cold w/o fires, so we are trying to find something to do. Is it Sand Mountain you are going to? I have a hard time going too many places besides Little Saraha, we love it there. But I have never been out there. I always want to try something new.Exactly where is it? Is it worth driving all that way, when I can drive 1.5hrs to Little Saraha?

Yes its worth it. It was a 11 hour haul for us and YES it was worth it. You got it lucky. SM is in fallon. Its somewhat near reno. go to mapquest to check it out. Yes its worth it though. All the big builders will be there showcasing their baddest machines. Charlie will be there with his dyno...its just a wild time! Crazy chicks getting it on in the back of jeeps, wet tshirt contests, all night parties, its hot as all he!! so them chica's dont wear much...you gotta come bro
