I have a 1998 Honda Recon and it is sometimes hard to start in the morning, I thought that maybe it was the plug so I changed it, but the bike still had trouble starting on cold mornings.
I went to the dealer and asked whats wrong with my machine he said that Honda is known for its cold starting. Is this true or is there something else wrong with my machine?

Hondapride I know the winters up here in Canada can get very cold...i have an 87' honda 200trx sx, i go out to start it up in the morning on a cold winter day and it starts on the first push of the starter button...maybe the recons are bad at starting, i thought all Honda models started fine in the cold.

i have the 200SX too, and they are jetted much richer thant he new recon, anythign 95' and newer is jetted lean to comply with smog laws..just stick in a new pilot or raise the needle and a 1/2 turn more on the air screw to get it like the older bikes

JRM does your chain come loose all the time on the 200sx??...because mine always does it's a pain to get it tight again. I just spent $800 on getting it fixed in the winter...it runs much better...they probably did someting to the air filter to make it go faster.

I just replyed to your other post, it is amazing how much preformance losss a loose chain causes, keep 1-2 inches slack max

I had a Recon and it was the hardest cold starting thing ever, but once warmed up not a single problem w/restarting. My dealer also told me it was a hard start, unlike my other Honda's.

Yes Honda ATVs are known not to start good in cold weather but they still are the best ATV ever. You should start it all the way in choke for 15 seconds then move it to the middle for a while until it warms up.

I have had a lot of people tell me that the 400EX is notorious for not starting very well on cold mornings. However, mine has always started on the first push of the button. As far as the rest of the honda lineup, I haven't seen to many complaints.
