Default Had some trouble deciding which quad to get. But finally got a 400ex.

I was trying to find which quad I wanted between the Raptor, Predator, and 400ex. Well, I chose the EX. Because I'm not going to be drag racing and I don't need all that top end. But I wanted good handling and a quad that you can get any aftermarket parts for. Besides that, everything I have ever owned has been a Honda. I traded my 99 CBR 600F4 in today for the EX. The deal is done and the only thing I have to do now is sign a few papers and walk out the door. I am doing that around 10:00am tomorrow morning. Hope I made a good choice. BTW, I only had to pay $350 plus my bike and now I have a 400ex. My dad traded his bike in also he got a Foreman 450 ES. Its pretty nice too. Well, the difference in our bikes vs. the two ATV's was $700 bucks. Both of our bikes were payed for so me and my old man split the difference in the price which is $350.00. Worked out great. Now, we just need a good place to ride. I have a friend that has a warrior. He said to give him a call. Have to do that. Anybody in the Western North Carolina area give me a shout.

Later,

Helix

I see nothing wrong with your decision.

The 450, I would go with the shift model because I have enjoyed shifting Honda's with the foot since 1969.

Yes I plan on doing a lot of mods. Everything from 1"-2" wider a-arms to aftermarket shocks and exhaust. Only thing I am not familar with is the air/fuel incounters you run in to when using an aftermarket exhaust system. Do the exhaust systems come with the jets needed for your quad? Or is it necessary to change your jets? Also, is the K&N filter system any good. Or which air filter kit do I want? I'm not going to get in to which exhaust system to buy. I would probably get a different answer from everybody. Oh yeah, can't forget about the nerf bars either. I was wondering. When you widen the front an inch or two. Do you also widen the back with longer axles or what? My Dad's Foreman is pretty cool because this year you can shift in and out of 4x4. I thought that was one of the cool things Honda started this year. I found out pretty quick on the EX you have to be careful when straddeling objects because the rear sprocket is low. On some stuff I about get stuck especially if its real rough. I wore a blister a little bigger then a pencil eraser on my tumb today trying to hold on to the beast. It wears you out after awhile. Or either I'm not use to it. I finally got some gloves. (Much better.) Last thing, is their any tricks or "free mods" I can do to my EX to wake it up a little more. I found a website where one dude add a little list of things you could do. He said his throttle from the factory was only opening up 75% of the way! I have to check for that also.

Thanks,

Helix

BTW, if you can help me out with the necessary mods first that would be great.

Great choice.....I miss my 400EX sometimes.Great handling predictable ATV.First id buy a K&N Filter and an Outerwear and run with Airbox lid off unless you are in dusty conditions all the time then id keep airbox lid on.Next id do an Exhaust System. Also some TAG T2 Bars will make a world of difference in handling and comfort. late, zubbeyboy

Whenever you add a K&N filter and aftermarket exhaust do you have to change your jets to get it to run perfectly? Which brings me to my other question. Does dynojet make good products? I am probably going to get the white brothers e series system. I don't know if I should get the S bend or the meg. Which one?

Thanks,

Helix

You can get an aftermarket CDI box that will rev higher than stockand has spark advance, that is about the most bang for the buck. NACS, Rocky Mountain, Dennis Kirk and every big ad in the magazines have these, price around $100.
