Just Wondering how many 400EX owners have cracked there swingams And where they are cracking If they are cracking in the same locations then I would think this would be a Defective part. where are yours cracking Stuart

 

This comes up every now and then.

The nut behind the bars is usually the defective part. We have broken one, I know what it takes. It was not defective. Although Honda did replace it under warranty (I wouldn't have if I were Honda in this case). They even replaced the flattened rear wheels, smashed upper control arm, and blown front shock (each separate claims, except the swingarm and rear wheels. None of which were due to crashes)...

The only problem Honda created, was making it too capable straight out of the box, this bike makes folks too confident. People are racing these things with stock parts that weren't designed for the abuse of racing, then wondering why they break stuff.

I haven't had a problem with mine. It has fallen out of the sky numerous times (see link below). Although I have broken the steel swingarms on 2 other bikes.

I also have had a stock 400EX swingarm for sale for 3 months now. To date I haven't got even one inquiry from a 400EX owner looking for a replacement, only 250R owners looking to convert.....

 

I was concearned about that as well when I bought my Y2K 400EX. The overall responce that I receaved when I asked that question, was that you don't have too much to worry about unless you are getting 9 or 10 feet of air on your jumps or racing. If you are not getting monster air then go have fun.
