440EX QUESTIONS
#2
MY 440 CAN EASILY BEAT A RAPTOR WITH A BIG GUNS PIPE AND JETTING TIME AND TIME AGAIN. I RUN A STOCK CARB BUT A FCR CARB IS THE WAY TO GO. ONLY ADVICE IS TO TRY TO SAY UNDER 11:1 RATIO BECAUSE HEAD GASKETS TEND TO BLOW. A LARGER OIL TANK IS A MUST BECAUSE 440EX'S RUN VERY HOT. LUCAS OIL STABLIZER HELPS BY REDUCING OIL TEMPATURE BY 6 DEGREES.

Horse Power on a 440ex depends on the builder and how much you do to your motor. For example my Trinity 440ex has a 12:1 J.E piston, pro-flow head work (porting), valve work, a all-around WEBCAM with DMC exhaust and a stock carb. It's put's out 40-41H.P.
Curtis Sparks 416 kits are awesome and CT racing has a very good 440 kit ($1200.00 without a pipe).

With the known 400ex rod problems I would go with a 440 bore and stroke and replace the weak rod! Powroll has a stroker crank and rod that is made 2mm shorter and uses a Std. 416 piston this is the best and longest lasting way to go. You also do not run in to the head gasket problems the the 440 all bore.
