Attention American Honda ATV R&D!!

There are alot of different threads saying what you think Honda might come out with next. Here is your chance to tell Honda exactly what you want in your new Honda sport quad. You are the customer and you spend your hard earned cash. If Honda R&D are doing their job they should be reading the different forums to see what the customers are saying. So even if someone else types the exact same thing that you want, show Honda there is a demand for it and add to the list.
I would like the new Honda to be between 400 and 500 cc's. I would like it to be reliable and well balanced. I want reverse gear, liquid cooling, light weight, electric start, manual clutch and really Electronic Fuel Ejection is a good idea. One more thing, I would like an announcement to the ATV Community stating if there is a new quad coming and how long it is going to take to be released. Honda likes having faithful fans. I would like Honda to be faithful and honest to it's fans. Enough guessing!

Well, I must have set some kind of record for the most views with the least amount of responses with this thread. ("0") I justed wanted to say that if you're interested in keeping up with the new Honda information releases. You don't have to wait and read it from a magazine or mag. site. You can just go under www.hondacorporate.com and view the press releases. Hopefully, there will be new releases to come soon.

I want it to use the Honda 70 engine, hot pink would be a good color Riznaptor, I want it to have only a reverse tranny with six gears - all reverse, it should be in the 800 pound range made completely of rusty cast iron - seat - tires - everything, it needs to be street legal - horn - turn signals - etc., it should have a manual pull start that uses a rope on an exposed flywheel, and it should only be sold to senior citizens that are bed ridden. The whole package should priced just under $12000.
Just kiddin guys
I'm sure Honda will reward its loyal fans with a great new sport quad soon.

megacrash that was funny.
400 - 450 cc range
EFI with 02 sensor so it can detect and make any fuel/air settings
Aluminum frame
well suspended
47 - 48 inches wide
350 - 360 pounds
35 - 40 hp at the wheels
slightly lower seat height than 400ex
priced no more than a Raptor.
only add reverse if it's as simple as the 250ex and the quad stays in the 350 - 360 pound range. If it's a cost issue the F*@k reverse I don't need it now and I can live without it for as long as need be.

not new for Honda. They have fuel injected cars, suvs, motorcycles, personal watercraft. They've also been building aluminum framed dirtbikes and streetbikes for a while. Not only do they have the technology but all the equipment to put it together and I'm sure they buy materials for manufacturing in much bigger quantities than Cannondale. If Cannondale can build a Cannibal and sell it for $7000 (which is one of the few Dales they made a profit on against their huge R&D costs) I guarantee Honda could do it $500 cheaper. Besides I don't think with all the quads out there and aftermarket parts companies that have improved on them that designing a quad is rocket science. Honda could stuff a liquid cooled, fuel injected 450cc engine in an aluminum frame with 400ex or 250r frame geometry make it a little wider and suspend it better and they would sell a zillion of them.

I raced some dales wiht my raptor. Both of us had exhaust and filter. He was right with me every drag. And over some bumps he kicked my @$$. Both of us were walking over the 400ex's. IF honda can make a FI 600, I would be in heaven. 450 seems low for my tastes, but that because i only ride in the sand. I need something that will take shee's when its beefed up.

that's why I think they should release 2 quads. A 450 for the mxers and trail blazers who want fast and lite and a 650 for the duners and hp nuts who aren't happy unless they can break the sound barrier from the garage to the back of the pick up they are going to load it in. They could do it with existing engines and stay carbuerated crf450r and xr650r or use all the technology they have to design new engines. A while ago in one of the mags a Honda R&D guy said they have many bikes, quads, engines etc that never see the light of day they use them for testing as well as trying different concepts out.

"the quad you mentioned would be very hard to make at the price of the raptor. Thats a lot of new technology to pack into a low priced quad"
Honda could very easily build the quad described and for less than $6500. If Honda released that kind of quad Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Polaris's current sportquad sales would tank. Even with all the new quads that have come out in the past 5 years, not one of them has proven or has the potential to do what the 250r did. Here's what Honda needs to concentrait on.
1. A reliable CRF450 based motor that puts out between 35-40 HP stock. The XR650 is to damn heavy and doesn't have a huge HP difference vs. the CRF. With mods the XR motor might produce high 50's to low 60's in the HP numbers but you still have to push an extra 50lbs of bike with it. I would perfer a light weight 450 that doesn't need any more but a pipe and rejet (much like the original 250R).
2. Chassis, suspension etc. As for the chassis, this bike should set a low weight record for a 4-stroke. The '88 250R weighted in at 340lbs, there's no reason Honda couldn't build this bike in the 350-360lb range. If you need reverse on a 350lb quad then you are in sorry shape. The aftermarket frame companies have been improving on Honda's design and doing their R&D work for them for well over ten years. There's no reason this quad shouldn't have an aluminum frame-The CR's have them, Cannondale has them and Bill Balance has proven them! Damn it I want one! I don't think IRS is inconceivable as it seems. If it can work on a 650lb "utility" quad, I think it's very doable. As far as shocks, huge strides have taken place in the last few years w/ triple rate springs and zero pre load valving. At a minimum make the front shocks rebuildable so they can be modified with this new technology! And for brake lines, there's no excuse to use rubber hose instead braided steel lines-that's just cheap!
Hopefully, you don't think I'm just rambling here, I'm just tried on seeing bikes come out with big motors that produce no more horsepower that a good 450 could, that are overweight and have chassis and suspensions that are no more better than what was produced in the late '80's.
