I am looking at a 400ex a 650ds and or waiting for the new yamaha, cannondale, and suzuki if they come out. I want to know every ones opinions and if the 400ex is really as good as it sounds.

I don't know much about the DS650 or the Cannondale, but the 400ex is a really great machine. If I were in the market for a new sport bike, I would wait and see what the new Yamaha is going to be. Their new bike is supposed to spank every bike that you listed. Only time will tell. It is going to be a 2001 model so it should be out in a couple of months.

The 400ex is a great reliable machine. One thing to consider is reliability. If you don't want to be working on it constantly go with a known brand. In dirt wheels this month they had the cannondale. These guys make bicycles and i'd want to see a first year of atv's tests and comments first. The bombardier is a good example. Next year they will have a better machine too. Watch for the new yamaha.

I have two 440 ex's (done by IMS)with race cams, FMF powercoreIV pipes and a few other things. The quads are good and fast. I took them out to San Felipe mexico last weekend and did a bunch of drag racing. We pretty much won or kept even with everybody....except one heavily modifed Banshee. (which by the way broke down). I also had a chance to ride the 650 and loved it...it rides a little different but it was very fast (i'm a big guy at 250lbs.) So, to answer your question I love my 440 ex's a lot...the reliability even with
the engine mods is awesome. But i'd buy the 650's if I had to do it all over again...

Just as a side note...we smoked all of the stoker 400's that were there. So if anyone is thinking about a 440 kit I highly recommend it..
