Ok, I've looked all over the net best I can, and I can't find a tachometer for a 400ex (or any 4-stroke ATV/bike) anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find one? A web page would be great. Thanks.

Hot Seat Polaris sells Tiny Tach for 2&4 strokes. They are digital with hourmeter and waterproof.

Thanks for the info, I'm guessing the tach your talking about is the Tiny-Tach? How responsive is it when reading RPMs? I mean, does the displayed RPMs change continuously with the engine RPM, or does it only take a sample like twice a second, like most of the digital tachs I've seen?

What I was looking for was more along the lines of an analog needle, auto-meter type tach, have you seen any of this kind that would work on a four-stroke atv/motorcycle?

Also, does the 400ex spark on every upstroke, or just on the compression stroke (one spark per revolution, or one for every two revolutions like a car)? Thanks for the info.

It is a constant reading. It works real well. Pretty accurate.

My tiny tach jumps around alot, the analog neadle would be much nicer. but the tiny tach is 100% accurate. Picked up mine for $29 if you want the model number for the single cylinder 4 stoke just let me know

I've heard of a lot of people puting tach's on their quads lately, and was just wondering why? I don't have any need for one unless someone could fill me in on a reason I wasn't aware of?

1. To Set the idle at spec
2. Oil pump failure (when the pump can no longer supply enough oil due to high RPM)on my 200SX is rated at 7,500RPM and i like to stay below that when cruseing down long roads reved out in 5th for hours at a time.I took it off as soon as i found my normal cruseing RPM
