Default SPLITTING CASES

Is it hard to split the cases on a 250r? I opened it up cause i thought i had a top end problem but its the bottom end, I can hear something rubbing I think its most likey the bearings. Would this be easy enough for me to do or do I take it to some1 that knows how and has done it before?

Yes and no. I think all you really need for special tools is a flywheel puller. There is a Honda case separation tool that I've used on a stubborn one but you don't need it. You might want to buy or have access to a shop manual. I'd say go for it. I've had several apart but not for a few years as another guy at work does a lot of the two strokes now. It isn't that hard. Pay attention to how the counterbalancer was timed before you take it apart. I'll try to help via this forum if I can. There's some people on here that know them really well that offer good info too. Always remember, if it just doesn't come apart, take out that last bolt you forgot.

If you've never done one and you dont have a manual DONT take your motor apart. Let somebody who knows that the f**k they are doing mess with it. If you buy a manual then you'll be green to go though. THe counterbalancer is easily timed. It has markings on the gears to line up so that shouldnt be a big deal

unless you got a wiseco crank, they have no timing mark, just make sure the counter balancer weight is at 6 o clock(aka, the bottom) when the piston is at TDC( top dead center)

Since when were there timing marks on the crank itself? All a wiseco crank is is the honda oem crank halves and the wiseco hot rod crank. Honda sells the crank halves but not the rod, thats why wiseco uses the oem crank halves and their own rods.

Didn't mean to start an argument on timing counterbalancers. Yes it's easy. My point was to look carefully at things BEFORE you take them apart. Try to understand how things work and take your own notes and be detailed. I have recently started using a digital camera to help remember how hoses, cables and wires are routed. Not an issue on 250r but really useful for say, the snakepit on top of a GL1500 engine. You think you'll remember how things go, but it's easy to forget! Specially if you have to wait on parts.
