Default 400ex hop ups

I'm putting a 440, port and polish, and all around cam on my 400. Already have full exhaust system. Do I have to get a carb to push 40 hp? Approximately, how much hp will it make with and without a carb? When you do these mods, do you usually have to lean it out because of the increased flow?

Thanks dsapp. I will do this. I hope I don't have to get a carb to push 40 with my setup. My local dealer says I will not see a big difference in hp until a carb is put on.

To get that sort of HP you will need better than an all around cam. The stock carb will run, however the FCR will work much better. Since the carb is external you can always change it later when your money tree re-blumes. I'd recomend going with a stock FCR race carb from a CRF450r, because it retains a choke curcuit, Honda has tons of needles and jets to make the set-up work almost anywhere.
