Default 400ex cooling solutions??

I have OMF scoops and they do help. But i've been looking for something more. I was looking at the FST oil cooler kit but how hard is it to put in?

Ive never had any problems with my 400ex overheating. The oil you run has alot to do with how cool the engine runs. I run 10w-40 in the winter (20-40 degrees) and 20-40 or 20-50 in the summer with average temperature 90 degrees. The oversized oil coolers help alot i hear, but are pretty expensive, the air scoops sound like a good idea. Remember, the more you move the more air gets to the engine to cool, if your just sitting still or riding real slow the engine will get hotter quicker. But i havnt heard anyone who ever overheated their engine to cause damage.

I was thinking about adapting the fan from a rancher to pull air through my oil cooler, and over the motor, if it ever overheats on me this summer. I don't like to go riding on the hottest days of the year anyway, so probably a non-issue, but just thinking

i think there might be a clearance problem with a rancher fan behind teh oilcooler on the 400ex, we have both an 01 rancher and my 01 400ex and i thought about doing the same thing. but it would be alot of work. in the end i just went to princess auto and bought 2 computer fans and made myself an aluminum bracket to hold them there on the back of the oil cooler and wired them directley from the battery to a switch beside the neutral light. they help but on a roastin hot day goin slow in trails theres not much you can do besides not get stuck behind the slow people.

You need to remove your clutch cover and head to drill them and tap them as long as your very careful and take your time there's nothing to it. You still use the stock Honda oil cooler also so it really helps out alot.

An FST oil cooler is an extra large oil cooler made by Four Stroke Tech that from what i've read is supposed to lower oil temps by 40 degrees (probably not true). They can be bought from magicracing for $129.99

the only quads that I ever see overheating on the trials are the ones that rely on water cooling...
mud always clogs the radiator, or the fan motor shaft get rusty and stuck because of too much exposure to water...

I've always owned air-cooled quads, and they have never over-heated
