400EX
Hi,
I'm in the market for a quad, still trying to decide which to buy. I'm pretty much deciding between the Z/KFX, 400 EX and Raptor. Each has their own good attributes. For the honda, its definitely its reliability. My friend has a Z and it impressed me quite a bit. I was just wondering how many mods one would have to get to beat his Z which is stock. I would most likely get a pipe, K and N, and was thinking about a Hot Cam. How much horsepower would I be able to expect from these mods, and will it affect the motors durability?

Comparing my ex with a slip on and power kit to my friends stocker you can feel the difference. I guess it barely adds any peak hp but it sure helped bottom and midrange. You should be alright on the relability as long as you clean your filter and jet it properly.
I'm wondering bout the hotcam too.
Also for a little better bottom power you could try a 14 tooth front sproket.

I would go for the Z. Its a better quad all around in my appinion. In dirtwheels they said it will hang with a raptor and do over 70 mph. FO for z. But if you want more speed thatn handeling and stuff said by dirtwheels go for the z. I am not dissing these other quads. SO no hard feelings to 400ex riders and raptor riders.

I am a proud owner of a 400ex. I wish it were faster but you can't ask for more when it comes to handling. If you plan on racing, the Z is the way to go. If you are lazy and don't what to do much maintaince, the 400ex is good. If you like to ride just for fun, get a Raptor. I have much respect for a Raptor. Raptors are very fast with just a pipe and the right jetting and like the Z it has reverse.
