there is this kid that i know in my school that thinks ATV's are stupid, and that it takes no skill to ride one, that the atv does all the work. i keep telling him that he is wrong, but he won't listen to me so can you explain what it takes to race one.

hey, i thought the exact same thing as him when i was younger, i had a dirtbike and thought that atv's where for lazy people, but how wrong i was. i had a go of my friends atv and i enjoyed myself so much on it i sold my dirtbike and got the same quad as my friend lol they are alot better than dirtbikes i, you can do more things on them. i like dirtbikes dont get me wrong but atvs win hands down, theres alot more skill involved than you think, thanx

He needs to ride one and then go down the road about 45mph and then hit a pot hole.
He will learn real quick that skill is needed to hang on.
No skill, he will learn real fast what it means to become one with the ditch.

Tell him to ride over a rocky terrain with a quad. See if he busts open a motor or rear end. Maybe a flat tire? You can't just get on and drive straight over things as fast as you can. There is a skill to it.
