Default Encouragement Please?

Spring is supposed to be a time when everyone wakes from the winter blues, while for most this is true. However, since this is the second summer in a row I've been without an ATV I'm growing more and more depressed as summer approaches us. I live in New Hampshire and there are no jobs paying enough which allow me to purchase an ATV. What's a guy supposed to do? Even when the economy is good, finding a decent job around here is difficult.

Here's my question: I'm 25, I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business and a Master's in IT, where do you all suggest a good place to make a living? In other words, where in all the great U.S.A. do you guys suggest I move? My ideal location would be someplace that has good industry (for a better chance at a good job) in combination with lots of land to ride on.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Don

Hey man open your eyes I am 16 and have a full time job (when I am out of school) I worked 45 hours tis week @ $8/hour here in good old Weare New Hampshire. There are plenty of jobs and plenty of riding areas. Unless your afraid to get dirty or something there's plenty of work around here, don't expect to start out at $30/hour for a 25yr. old kid....ya know...don't expect much and you won't be disapointed. Go get a job at Naults honda.

Come down to Boston. There is plenty of jobs here. The only thing is the traffic bites.

Well you could come to California - you'll make decent money but it will cost an arm and a leg to live here. I work in Santa Barbara - where the median home price is $600,000. Some are less, most are more - alot more. I work for a software company are we are doing well and always looking for top talent with an background in IT and computers. But we tell everyone the same thing - Two-thirds of what you make gross, will go to rent. Most people I know pay anywhere from $1500-$2000 a month in rent. Many people share places and others eventually can buy something. But with all of the expensive housing - and that's probably it - food is cheap, gas is a little more but you gotta have gas wherever you go - anyway, with all of the expense comes weather that you can ATV or motorcycle ride year-round in. If you hate the snow, then go to the beach, if you tire of the heat , in 90 minutes you can be snow skiing. There are lots of places to ATV - sand dunes, mountain trails, beaches so if you are inclined you might want to check it out. I live an hour from my office - but I also didn't have to pay a million dollars for my house either. I have the same background you do and working here in California makes it possible to buy all the toys the guys on this forum have. It's doable and the pay is a hell of alot better than where you are.

California is the place to be...in Fresno the cost of living is pretty low compared to other places in the state and with a degree you should be able to find a job easily...Just got to look around. Better start going to job fairs...there are always people recruiting.

I've been to CA a few times, my best friend from college lives near Santa Cruz, just south of the bay area. I love to go there, great climate, beautiful and diverse scenery. But it costs a ton of money to live there. And there's people all over the place. Pretty dry too unless you're in close proximity to the ocean. I have lived my whole life here in MN. You might consider MN, MI or WI, clean, reasonable cost of living, low unemployment, plenty of tech industries and a reasonable population. You can live in a large city and in a few hours be by yourself in the middle of the woods listening to wolves howl. The climate is probably similar to what you're used to RedRancher, with distinct seasons. ATV's and sleds are big business here too, with Arctic Cat and Polaris as residents.

Ahh... The old where to live and ride vs pay vs cost of living.

For starters, HEAD WEST!!! I spent a lot of my life on the East coast and I'll NEVER go back (Granted Northern New England is a nice place). I live in Wyoming now and it's not perfect but cost to live is low and there is plenty of riding around but I don't recommend this as a place to live. Utah - maybe near Slat Lake City. is decent and Utah has a lot of great riding. Idaho has lots of good riding. Oregon has plenty of places plus the dunes on the coast. Phoenix is not bad but you are out of what I consider to be the best riding "zone" which is probably Utah, Idahao, Oregon, Colorado, and maybe some of Nevada. These areas are all pretty ATV friendly and you will have plenty of riding opportunities. California is a little expensive and communist for my liking. Colorado is OK but the front range is getting crowded and more expensive but there is a lot of utility ATV type riding there in the mountains.

I wouldn't get too hung up an an area with lot's of industry - it increases your odds of good pay but you will likely have higher costs of living, traffic, crime, etc... Find a place you would like to live then start looking for work in that area.

If it were me I would find a place in mid-Oregon coast or around the Idaho/Utah border.

Good luck to you.

To all who have replied I thank you. You all have provided me with great options. It seems I will be looking to the West Coast as my preferred place to reside and make a living. I will let you all know where I decide to call home by September. Again I appreciate your replies.
