why are all you honda guys bashing yamaha and the big bears?? I have a 2003 big bear 4x4 400 (not the old 350) and it is a great atv and I am not bashing honda. I was also considering the rancher before my purchase but just wanted the 2wd and 4wd I love playing around in it and the big bear handles it well after 225 miles it is running stronger then when I picked it up also I got the winch for $70 I dont believe yamaha is bad and I think the big bear is yamaha's most reliable atv there making from what I have been hearing. I am sure the rancher is just as reliable also!

When I purchased my atv I looked at all options on the big bear, rancher and wolverine. They all are very similar the big bear and rancher are more for working/fun, wolverine fun/working, in my opinion. I went with what I thought would be best for me. Thats why I bought a wolverine, the rancher would have been next due to reliablity, Hondas name, and alot of people have them so they must be good quads. The big bear did not grab me in anyway but a couple of my friends have them and seem to be all around good quads. But I'm not going to come onto the Honda forum and tell all of you I bought a wolverine and there so much better and that the seat is more comfortable and that the rancher has the tendency to dig holes in the mud. LOL!!

Man do you guys need a history lesson on the BigBear400 engine!!!!!
[1]1995 Wolverine350
[2]1997 BigBear 350. Yamaha took the Wolvy engine and made camshaft and gearing changes and added it to the BigBear. This BigBear also had a frame design similar to the Wolverine.
[3]1999 Kodiak 400. Yamaha took the BigBear[Wolverine] engine and put in a version of the same stroker crankshaft that they used in the older engines with the sub transmission.
[4]2000 BigBear 400. Yamaha took the Kodiak and put on new plastic and called it a BigBear. The Kodiak became an all new machine with the automatic transmission.
BTW, not to argue with which is best, but the Honda Rancher lineup took the place of the TRX300 in 2000 and has been the best selling ATV each year since then. How can it be so bad if it sells that well?? Just something to think about.
