Hey im hearing people that are saying that if you get a bigger qaud, the more momentom in the thick mucky mud. But that is not true, my friend has a 450es and he took it thought some of the muckiest
mud ive seen and got stuck while we pulled him out my other friend had a new 4wd-es rancher and went right thought it with out a lot of momentom.
Now tell me this, is it that big of a deal about momentom? Now I can understand but it's not all momentom is it???

the rancher has a better front end (differintial) than the foreman.

I realize that the rancher hase a new differin. system on it. But people are saying that a bigger qaud can still out blow a rancher in the mud because it's not big enouf of a cc engine to rotate the tires. Say if you hav a kodiak for instance, They say just because of the bigger cc engine it can beat the rancher in the mud!!! I don't belive it. What do think of this???

LovinHonda:
In certain situations, yes momentum does matter. However, with being stuck in the mud, and the larger cc engine being able to blow right through it, that all depends. Yes, the larger cc engine should be able to spin the tires faster, which would throw more mud out, but if the smaller bike had comparable tires, in a size that fit that machine, it should do just as good. Now, usually larger cc engines are on larger framed bikes, which also translates to more weight. Figure in the weight of the rider, and sometimes the lighter, more nimble quad will go farther than the heavier, larger quad. It also depends on the riders abilities, and knowledge of how to drive in mud. I've seen guys more time than I can count go through mud holes that even the biggest, baddest four wheel drives couldn't make it through. Was it the bike, or the momentum? Neither, but rather the skill of the rider. Put that same skilled rider on the larger bike, and he'll drive it through too.

The other thing you have to think of, is momentum is not always a good thing. Sometimes too much momentum can get you into serious trouble, or a much worse predicament than you were in, in the first place. Not sure if this helps, or causes more confusion. If you are trying to decide between the two machines, stick with what your instincts are telling you-which one you really want the most. After spending some time on the machine, you'll learn how to drive it, and the more time you spend on it, the better you'll learn to drive. You'll also find little tricks that will help you through even the thickest mud holes.

Good luck!

Mike

Hey cowboy, thats a great point but I still don't no why people are saying it's such a big deal about this. A bigger cc engine does not matter at all and yes I no it depends on the experance of the atver.
By the way I am getting a 4wd-s rancher soon. so I would like to no how much momentom do you need on them but thats in all you can handle.

Me and a bunch of my buds went riding saturday night and we came across a really good mudhole. My friend took his big bear 4X4 through it, then I went through it, then my friend on a Foreman 4oo 4X4 went in really fast and buried his front end. We puled him out and I went back through it in the same spot, slower, not even close to getting stuck.
