Default 300 Fourtrax master cylinder...

Can anyone give me some info on how hard it is to rebuild a master cylinder for a '95 300 2wd Fourtrax? A brand new one is $238 vs. $35 for a rebuild kit. Labor for getting one rebuilt is $65. Does it just involve removing a snap ring and replacing the piston?

Yeah that's basically it for rebuilding it. Of course everything has to go in the right way, and it's a little hard to get the clip out, and the kits for bikes I've done lately come with the rubber seal off the piston and you have to put it on. It's a tight fitting little devil so be careful. Seems strange you need one at all. I run across a few 70's bikes, and maybe early 80's models that might need one but nothing that new. Are you sure yours is bad?

Yeah i'm pretty sure. Basically to make a long story short here is what happened. ATV wasnt rode for a while, m.c. ran out of fluid somehow, refilled and tried to bleed. Fluid only flows out of the bleeders because of gravity, pumping doesnt push fluid out and the new fluid in the m.c. doesnt flow into the lines. There is no pressure at all when pumping so i'm guessing the piston is stuck or completely out. I did read an forum post about bleeding the m.c.. It seemed like the guy had a similar problem, but I'm assuming worse case scenario.

I doubt it. You probably need to bleed your master cylinder. Try taking the banjo bolt fitting off at the master cylinder and hold your finger over the hole left by the fitting. If your master cylinder bleeds up this way after a little pumping and wants to push your finger off the hole, it's fine. I posted a while back on a guy with a similar problem (he was gonna put a kit in his master cylinder as it turned out unnecessarily). Sometimes it helps alot to use a vacuum pump of some sort at the bleeders too.

I'm sure Dzzy is right..."bench bleed" your master cylindar and lines...even then sometimes you need a vacuum pump to pull the fluid through the lines

Thanks for the input, but the m.c. is bad. I tried bleeding the m.c. and had no luck.
