Off-Road.com Rubicon dual range??
#1
While reading the off road review I picked out either a typo or a very COOL feature on the rubicon, it says: D1 for max performance, D2 for max torque and ESP....The Rubicon also has a "dash" mounted shift lever or **** that controls the sub-transmission. The **** has four positions: neutral, drive, low, and reverse.
Did that say LOW range along with D1 and D2? Yes it sure did. Hope it is true

Heck yeah, It does have dual range plus D1 and D2!! Just checked the honda page and here is a direct copy: "A lever to the left of the fuel tank controls a two-speed transfer case, and allows the rider to select Low or Drive ranges, Reverse and Neutral". I would think This quad "should" break 60MPH, Joe

I read in one article that this is not a completely untested and new Honda idea. Honda used an automatic on motorcycles back in the 70's if I remember correctly. There are no gears in the transmisson so the low gear is created by moving the "swash plates" creating the same effect. It will be most interesting to see how it works out. Gardner10
ps: If Honda had this out last year I probably would have bought one.

Read the Hondamatic technical piece elsewhere on this site...

The gearshift selector picks can select either Low or Drive in the sub-trans. These are gearsets.
The mode selector selects one of three electronic programs: D1=performance, D2=torque, and ESP acts like a gearbox giving you five preset reduction ratios in the Hondamatic.
This diagram shows there are five possible forward combinations using D, L and the 3 electronic modes:
