Default is a jet kit that much better than going with larger mains?

i have a 300ex with a FMF MegaMax II pipe k&n filter and an open air box. is a jet kit that much better than going with larger mains? i'm debating on getting a $50.00 jet kit or getting a couple $3.00 mains and playing around with it a little. Thanks

A jet kit would only be worth it if you have an engine that is really touchy about where it's ridden. Two strokes tend to be more touchy than 4 strokes. Elevation, temperature, humidity, etc., will all affect your jetting, yet on a 4 stroke it is much less affected.
If you have added the things you said, I would only buy a couple main jets, and actually, just increase your main jet 1-3 sizes.

I agree with trapperb1, just buy a couple mains. The only reason i have a dynojet kit is cuz the quad came with it. Nice to have but not really necessary in some cases.
