2006 Yamaha grizzly 660...tested with GPS unit (so is accurate for my wheeler) although it seems that no two run exactly the same....Stock=66mph(flat ground w/ tail wind..lol). With 28" tires and modified exaust...72MPH(same conditions)

I get a kick out of these "heavily modded somehow get 40 mph over stock" yahoos on here. I had a heavily modded banshee years ago and I changed the gearing because we were doing a lot of road riding at the time and it would go between 80 and 85 depending on the weather. Let's clear something up yahoos, if you're going to increase the "top" speed of a machine you can really only do it four ways and two of them aren't really an option. 1. You can change the tranny for a higher gear (not really an option for most) 2. You can change the size of tires on the back (again not really an option do to the poor handling characteristics it will cause. 3. Mod the engine to create more RPM's this will help some but, you can only go so much more and it won't take it (you ever hold a banshee wide open then say to yourself " I think this thing needs to rev higher..................NO.......something will break). 4 is really a combination of modding up the engine and changing the sprockets. This is really the only real way to get more top speed out of a bike. When someone says they have a bike and put a pipe on it and jetted it now all of the sudden it's going 20,30, 40 mph faster, please just walk away because if you stay, what enters your ears from that point on will make your brain cells start to die faster than a case of cold bud on a Friday night.

(WHO CARES)
most 500CC quades will hit 50 plus
What is your question good for anyway? It all comes down to optional equipment rider weight, and most importantly what kind of tires is on the quad???????
It's almost as stupid as seeing a 4x4 truck at our local drag strip, I know it's fun to do it but I would be more impressed to see how big of a hill it could climb etc, I/E doing a task it was made for.

Case in point. LOL!

Mine goes a lot faster than I ever want to hit a tree, about 55 or so on a dirt road in 4-wheel-drive, with a cooler full of cold ones, a 5-gallon gas can and a 300 pound rider. Most of the time I can only do 15-20 on the trails, so top speed means very little to me.
If your quad reads the speed off the transmission or rear wheels, then your speedometer will read higher than the actual speed when you break traction. For several years Polaris read the speed of one of the front wheels so it doesn't matter if you do burnouts or if it slips a little going down the road. It reads the speed you're moving, and not how fast the rear wheels or transmission spin.
I LOLed at a couple of guys I met on the trail with modified Banshees. They both "think" they will go AT LEAST 90 mph, but don't have speedometers, have never rode next to a car, never used a radar, never used a GPS, etc. Friggin' yahoos know that it feels fast to them. They must be fast because they were haulin' @$$ when I passed them. It's like a lawn tractor passing a dirt-bike. I almost felt bad for them.
I saw another modified Banshee with about 3 inches of ground clearance. I stopped and talked to him and his friend who was on a Grizzly 660. When we took off I went first. I waited for a long time at the next stop sign then gave up on them. I think I was only doing 40-45 but his Mod. Quad couldn't handle the bumps and occaisional rock and my IRS just soaked them up. No matter what his "top speed" was, his "usable speed" or "rideable speed" on that trail was a fraction of mine on a lumbering utility quad with over a half-ton of combined weight.

I've had my Praire 360 to 45 m.p.h. checking w/gps (no speedo) but whats funny is my 220 is faster (top end) than my 360 with equal weight riders, but the 360 accelerates faster, My father-in-law has a twin peaks 700 and I have had that pinned at 64 (according to its speedo). Zorro 700 is right, You have to make serious gearing mods and engine mods to go faster, I rode a Mojave that belonged to friend of mine and did some mods, overbore/cam/pipe/carb that helped it get up and go but the top speed didn't change untill we changed the gears, Its a fine line between under geared and over geared!
I have a moose tiny tach on the 220, about 8700 rpm is max (pinned) on a flat gravel road, but down a hill (pinned) I saw 9300, But I doubt those are any more accurate than factory speedo's. The 360 never turned more than 8200 in low range, even less in high.
Where do you find 120 Avgas?, 100LL is the only stuff I've seen and that is only a 100 motor octane/ and 130 aviation rich octane. 115/145 has been extinct for years!
