Top Speed For All Atv's
#73
I got to wrap out my 700EFI motor in the Cat the other day. Level ground, all the room I needed. Mine is the M4 model, so it's a Suzuki Kingquad motor.
I maxed at 64mph. Like someone else said- far faster than I care to hit a tree at.
Not sure why any of that matters though. I traded off a 170mph motorcycle for my quad. I only ever hit that speed a couple times, on the highway where it's strait and boring. In the sport bike scene someone is always asking 'what's the fastest' to which I reply, the bike I AM ON. I regularly crushed bigger, faster bikes simply by being a better rider.
Displacement isn't a big concern, much less so top speed, in any place worth riding. The twisty roads here never allow for more than normal road speeds (which is flying in the twisties). I never got my bike out of 3rd gear anywhere but a highway- so who really cares about top speed? No trail I've been on with my quad allows me to even remotely use all 700cc's. If I could get that sort of speed up, I'd find a better place to ride.
Even on a track racing MX, you're almost never at full tilt. So in my opinion top speed is about the most useless statistic for any machine. Especially machines in the Hunting, Farming, and Work subforum...........

I agree 100%. How fast do people go when they hunt, farm, and work, anyway? 5-10 mph? As I already stated, most of the trails I ride are at 15-20 mph. Many of the 3,000+ miles of trails in Michigan are like that. If I was trying to sneak up on game I would go slower.

I totally think most guys are lying thru their teeth....I have a 2006 polaris outlaw 500....I wondered what my top speed was and tried it out the other day with a hand held gps....I got a top speed of 71 mph on pavement.....so when I hear about these guys saying their big utility atv's are going in the high 70's across a field they are full of $hit!

before i got 26 mudlites i topped out at 58 or 59 mph and that was on the street now i go about 45mph.which is fine.not made for speed.ive put mine threw some stuff, climbing hills ,in some serious mud and water.

I haven't GPS'd my machine. Just going off what is indicated on the speedo. Don't know how bad those are. On sport bikes they are often way off at high speeds. I GPS'd my TLR at 170mph. And that's at this altitude, but with some mods on it.
At typical speeds though I think the speedos ought to be fairly accurate.

the warrior 350/ raptor 350 stock do between 55-60 on a good day, the rapp 660 suposedly does 72, w/ kfx 700, and rappy 700 right below 80. these were my results. ps kfx we tested was not stock, it had yoshi full twin exhaust and k+n filter.top speed isnt wats fun anyway 75mph is no more fun than 70mph, the acceleration is the thrill!
