If they were not any good there wouldnt be a waiting line ( in some areas) to get one!
I have a 93 17 savage SS bull barrel , a custom stock and basix trigger. I set paint ***** on golf tees at 50-75 yards and plast them all day long ! I can hit them at 100 yards when the wind is calm and I have a good steady rest.

Fun to shoot and reasonably accurate from the little I have shot one. Price of ammo is kind of high, I can load and shoot a 17 Ackley Bee for less.
If you don't reload it's a fun little cartridge.

It is an amazing gun, it blows away the .22 mag. My old man has the Rugar model, I am hoping Browing comes out with one for 2005.
My dad can get 5 shots in a two inch diamiter at 130 yards. Makes for great practice for deer hunting.

If you are interested in the shooting sports and knowing about the many cartridges that were available up thru about the mid 60's you should read Mr. Ackleys "Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders". There are two volumes and a small addendum which was offered in soft cover only. These books cover the factory and wildcat rounds up thru that time better than any other volumes I have seen.
I find it interesting to watch the major firearms manufacturers come out with "new" cartridges and compare the internal and external ballistics with those listed in this old wildcatters manual. Really seldom that there is anything really new. Even the rimfires have been done before but in centerfire.
I had a series of letters with Parker many years ago which eventually led to the development of a very fast and accurate belted 6MM wildcat built on an 06 case. This was prior to the 243 Winchester and the later Remington 6MM's. Parker was always willing to share his knowlage and pursue new ideas.

yep, it's a 22 bee necked down to .17 with the shoulder blown out to 40 deg. I believe. I've yet to shoot an akley that didn't shoot awesome, but both of mine are coopers so they should shoot!

Shady, how could you! I've spent all my money on the rifles now I can't really afford to get out there and tour the factory. I do believe if I lived that close I would be in debt so deep even MY wife would loose her cool! I've bought one for each of my four kids as an inheritance from me, I hope they all appreciate how much of my sweat went into each one.

I also have one in a marlin. Longest shot 225 yds on a woodchuck, killed it dead in its tracks. All though I would have to say it is really a 150 yd gun with the loss of energy out past 200 yds one shot kills are not the norm.
