Good job AlaskaBoy! It is always a relief to have that freezer full for another year.
Coyotechaser, my wife is stationed at the Bristol Bay Area Health Coorporation. The picture of us in Juneau is from a trip we took last May for her birthday. That is an amazing area if you ever get a chance to see it. Just don't go in the rainy months!!!

Your right AlaskaBoy and I know that the neck is much smaller and to each is own. I personally had to look for 1 moose but was because I took a shot to the Heart and hit target but he kept on going for 200 yard with a busted heart and when we gut it there was only the top of the heart left. The second I was able to shot again he felt right in his track but that shot was a Spine shot...
I will be looking at Yukon Moose hunting for my next big expense...
Sound like you guys have much bigger animal!!!

I've never been moose hunting just wondering how the meat compares to elk?

Kado, I think that moose taste better then any other kind of deer. I can't tell the difference between it and beef, plus the moose has way less fat; big bonus for me as my wife is a dietitian! But the Elk, Caribou, and Deer are all pretty much fat free too.
AlaksaBoy, the head was wraped up as we are going to have the head mounted for my dad. My dad lives in MN and has a good friend that is a taxidermist. He is going to be doing it and the head will just stay at my dad's house. This was actually the only bull we saw out hunting that weekend. We ended up shooting him just off of Snakelake road about 1/2 a mile. There are some good moose down in that area, an old native man we talk to said he got a 65" one two years ago around there.

Catterman,
I think I know the area you were at, was it just on the otherside of the mountain where you drop back down into the valley heading to the lodge? If it is, then this is the spot where I found a couple nice bulls over 60" that John told me that he would give me a fork and knife if I shot one of them. He had helped a friend pack one out of there once and said he would never again. We also saw a 7+ footer Brownie in the same area but we did not go after him either.
It is nice to have a taxidermist for a friend, they work for cheap but getting them to finish it is another thing. Must be because they either are doing it for free or realy cheap.
I posted some photos on my page of my camp, they will not be approved for awhile but when they are you can see how we rough it. They are not in order so you will have to look at them all.
Congrats again and maybe one of these years I can come out and if John is busy, you and I could get together and go moose or caribou hunting. I am sure John would loan me a quad.
AlsakaBoy.

Alaskaboy can't wait to see your pics.
My dad met a man that makes authentic Indian Tee-Pees several years ago and had him build him a 14-16' and I laughed until we went elk hunting in the Rockies and realized how warm they were with a fire built in the middle. The next year I was so impressed that we had him build us a 20' tee pee and between the two we camped 9 hunters. My dad made the poles out of skinned pine poles and to make them easier to transport he cut them in half and spliced them with EMT conduit. The old man that built the tee-pee's wanted to make sure we only used natural ingredients (wooden poles).... Until then I didn't realize that they had an inner liner that not only created a draft for the smoke but also formed an insulation barrier and unlike most wall tents the snow slides right off. We would have to go out and clear snow every now and then for the draft to work properly.

Nice Moose Catterman. I was not able to get a moose of legal size in the crosshairs this season. I did drop a 310lb black bear near my cabin on the Kenai Peninsula. I think it tastes almost as good as moose but a whole lot less of it.
I don't have any pictures of the bear as the camera got a little smashed when I fell out of my tree stand one evening. Gravity sure is a pain in the ***! (literally)
Two other guys in my hunting party were able to shoot a moose. Nothing huge, 54" and 56", but it all tastes the same.
Congrats again and eat well.
