especially with guns you get what you pay for. They are trash. The new "Saturday-Night Special" I am a cop and have dealt with weapons for many years. These guns are worthless and you won't be able to get anything out of them on re-sale. Be lucky if they don't blow up in your hand. Go with something with a decent reputaion, Glock, S&W, beretta, Colt. etc. Don't go with anything that you don't trust. It's just too dangerous.

Yup they are indeed junk.

I acquired two of them in a deal where they were tossed in. They didn't cost me anything. One was a .45 and the other was a 9mm. I shot them both but not too much as I figured they would fly apart in my hands. They jammed quite a bit and weren't the least bit accurate. They are a cheap cheap cheap essentially disposable handgun. I didn't keep them too long. Don't trust your life to one. If you can get one for under 50 bucks and just want something to burn ammo in then have at it. Hi-Point does have a lifetime warranty. Shoot it till it flies apart and get a new one. I will say this for Hi-Point; out of all of the uber cheap disposable handguns such as Lorcin, Jennings etc. the Hi-Point seemed to me to be the best. Best being a relative turn. Like saying that one turd smells slightly better than the rest.

BTW I knew a reserve police officer that carried a Hi-Point .45 as his duty weapon. I found that pretty frightening.

Yes, I agree with the above statement. A reserve officer carrying a Hi-Point is indeed retarded. That shows that he did not take his job or his life for real. I have never worked for a department that would allow a Deputy (reserve or active) to carry such a peice of crap. There are so many things wrong with that. The department, the officer, the supervisor, the administration, his fellow officers were put at great risk by allowing the Deputy to carry the cheapest gun he could find. I wouldn't allow that kind of stuff. I was a reserve for a few years and carried a smith. I couldn't afford it, but I got it. I knew that I, or another person may have to rely on the weapon in my holster. I buckled down and did everything I had to to get a reliable firearm. K, soapbox handstanding over, thank you for playing.

Scarier yet is that he qualified with it not once but twice before he got another pistol. A Beretta if I remember right.

I'm from a LE family and I shoot with LE guys and while many of them are good shots and have forgotten more about firearms that I know, I have to admit that far too many of their fellow officers they have brought with them shooting are exactly the opposite. A pretty frightening number of them are really, really bad shots. More than one seemed to actually be afraid of their weapon. All of the above being the reason why they were there for extra range time I suppose.

The guy with the hi-point is a pretty tame example. One older guy who was preparing to retire had been carrying an unusable revolver for I don't know how long. It had to be disassembled by a gunsmith just to be unloaded. It hadn't been maintained or even taken out of the holster in ages. One guy was convinced that my hollow point pistol rounds were "cop killer" armor piercing bullets that would rip right through both sides of a vest. Another didn't seem to know the difference between a semi auto and a machine gun. As one who had grown up around cops who were state marksmanship champions and department armorers I was stunned when I was exposed to more of the rank and file. Some of the ignorance (I don't mean that in the pejorative sense) was simply shocking. I realize that all in all firearms aren't the main part of police work, or even a major part, but they are critically important when they come into play. I had always assumed that all police were quite familiar and proficient with the tools of the trade so to speak. Not always the case I found.

I'm in LE also and it is scarey how many of my co-workers know very little about them. even IF you don't shoot or enjoy the sport you need to know the basics of all weapons, you could incounter one anywhere in our job and need to make the weapon safe! As far as marksmanship, it's the one tool you pray you never have to use but, you better be the best at if you ever have to!

Oh yeah my opinion of High point, good little rifles, pistols: feel like they are made from a cheap Iron skillet, and atleast you can cook with the iron skillet reliably! Good blamo gun, thats it!

We had an "officer" leave an 870 in the trunk of a car long enough that the pump seized up! I just don't understand some people!

As part of the "Worlds 911 Force", one thing I can tell you is "know the tools of your trade". The Hi-Point my brother had was JUNK. It literally fell apart in his hand while he was shooting it. You really do get what you pay for, thats why it was "DIRT CHEAP".

Default Hi-Point .40

Kind of depressing to read all the bad posts about Hi-Point since I recently bought one. I bought a .40 pistol and although it is quite a heavy gun, I've fired over 500 rounds through it and only had one jam on the last round in the clip. At first I thought the accuracy was quite bad, but after properly sighting it in, I'm quite happy with it. Maybe mine is the exception, but for the money, I'm very happy with it.

Old post but FWIW I heard Hi-Points are very reliable. Cheap and ugly, but reliable.

P.S. I heard that most of the problems on the rare bad gun are just the mag lips need tweaking.
