Default military rifles for hunting

i was just wondering if anyone else uses any old military rifles for hunting deer. they're affordable, durable, and if they were good enough to kill a man, they good enough to kill a deer. lol i use a Russian M-44 bolt action rifle with a 7.62x54 mm round, it shoots pretty straight, i just put a b-square mount and scope on it to give me the extra edge. so, if you use one, tell me about it.

I've shot an m-1, .30 I believe. It was dead on from about 100yds. I only had one shot because my cousin was shooting and complaining how innaccurate it was. He had one shot left so I tried and hit dead center. Ya know the funny part about it was I had a brand new p-95 .45 which I couldn't seem to get a half way near decent group out of and he got a tighter group with it!! I don't understand that. With factory barrell in my glock 22c (Factory compensated barrell) that didn't seem very accurate either though, although I have an un-compensated barrell waiting to be broken in and that should help.

I have an SKS (7.62X39) that I modified a bit to get legal for hunting out here. Put on a synthetic stock, 5 round clip, scope, bipods, and camo painted it myself. It looks pretty good, but I only use it for varmints like coyotes and badgers, but if I got drawn for deer, I would probably use it.

I had an sks sporter. My car(old car) was about 200 feet away and I felt like shooting it so i aimed at marker light on fender for a reference point and shot. I didn't see a hole around it or paint missing from that distance. As I got closer I realized I hit the center of the 1"X4" light. That was one of the first times I had shot it.
