How Much Do You Pay to hunt?

Interesting topic. Makes me happy to live in north Idaho. My elk hunting camp is less than a two hour drive. Deer camp is 80 minutes away. Plenty of public land to hunt. Only somewhat crowded during cow elk season.

This morning when I got up I looked out the window as I always do before I let the dog out. The field had 6 deer in it. So the dog and to be put in his run this way he can scare them away by barking with out chasing them. I can't believe the crap you guys go through to hunt. We have a lot of American Sports come here, but sorry I'm not happy about that. They are here armed with the biggest baddest guns they can carry and squeezing off rounds at every sound they hear. The damn guides basically guarantee them an animal.I actually caught them herding once they sit the American Sports in tree stands and then fire off small arms while moving towards them herding the deer to the stands. Sounded like a damn war going off I laid on the ground until I figured out what was going on. I have a lot of friends and relatives in the States but I wish they didn't come here to hunt, stay in your own country

My hunting costs are around 500 to 700 hundred a year. But with the gas prices this year I spent 400 hundred on fuel just setting up camp and then another 500 hundred for food, beer, hunting license( moose tag is free) and misc. extras and if I get one then the price goes up another 200 or so for processing(which I did check my pictures). Oh, shreaded a tire on the quad, so there goes another 100 bucks.
Total this year is around 1200 hundred, YIKES, better not let the wife see these numbers. Just kidding, she and I talked this over and she suggested that I could do a flyout every other year and come out ahead. Gotta love the little women.

Well we all don't feel like that (there are only about 30 million of us Canadians; (what's that about the population of California) and since its damn cold for 6 months a year we all seem to be on the internet so you'll get lots of opinions...I respect his but we don't all feel the same about of American friends)....anyway I live in Manitoba, right beside the Ontario border (straight north of Grand Fords ND) and can tell you we have a hell of a lot of crown land here that you and your friends are welcome to hunt on....bring your trucks, quads and guns the woods are full of bear, deer and moose....there are numerous hotels and motels in the n/w Ontario and eastern Manitoba area (as well as northern Manitoba and Ontario...but thats usually a fly in trip) ,....that would love to see you and your business...

kenora, I grew up just south of you, between Thief River Falls and Warroad. When I was in high school many, many years ago, we would cruise up across the border so we could drink. Drinking age in Mn was 19 at the time.
BTW, if I ask all my buddies to not cross the border to hunt and fish, will you ask yours to stay up there this winter rather than come here and trash our politicians?

Besides the liscence cost, nothing. As long as you have all of your equipment and stuff. Then again thats one benefit of being able to hunt on your own land. My deer stand is 50 yards from my backdoor...litterally. Fun part is when you shoot a deer it runs down hill. The deer I shot 2 years ago dropped 10 yards from my back yard. Not too much of a drag

A year ago I paid $950 for a bear hunt in Idaho. That included everything except for license and transportation to and from. I got two bear, one with a rifle and one with a hand gun. Taxidermy for both was about $1,200. Meat processed and shipped to SoCal was about $300. That included sausages and two smoked hams.
This past week-end I went deer hunting on public land out on the left coast. An hour into legal shooting it was over. Got a nice little buck that dressed out about 130lbs. Cost; license (resident) $55.40 (includes small game), gas $5.00, one bullet for 7mm $1.00. Am also getting it butchered; $65- $80.
I intend to go to africa in a year or two on a safari hunt. I am figuring that with a cheap hunt (just plains game) total cost with trophys on my wall will be AT LEAST $10,000. That includes air fare.
