One of the guys that hunts in the area we hunt shot a deer on opener morning. The guy is a real zipper head, 25 yards, in the open, and wounds it with his 30-06. So he tracks it to our fence line and stops. At least he has enough sense (I think.. but thats another story) not to tresspass. He comes to the door and tells his story and my dad tells him go ahead and get it. Well, later that evening I get a call from a mutual friend who tells me the story, they're going out the next day to get this deer. (Zipper head's desicion) My friend wanted to make sure that with them going out it wouldn't mess up my hunting (nice guy). We set up a time, I tell him to give me a ring on my cell and I'll help track. I figured I could get a little experience blood hounding. Next day, I don't see squat hunting, we meet late morning. I watch my budy track, and I tell you the guy has an eye for a blood trail. While he is tracking I get the story right from zipper heads mouth. I shake my head and tell him "I think if you were to blind fold one of 'Jerry's kids' he could take a better sound shot then you did yesterday. Heck I have yet to have to track anything I have shot, and all my shooting is an easy 200+ yards."
So 15 minutes later and an end to a too long of a story this is what we found.

The Wolves or Coyote’s got it over night. I made sure what was left got a tag put on it.... It had a nice little basket on it. 6 pointer.

 

My server won't let me look at the picture but man, what an idiot. He could have gone in right away and got the deer but decided to wait til the next day? If the coyotes got it, it's a wonder there are any deer any where near the area.

Did he shoot that thing just below the spine ? Don't think the coyotes would have made a small hole like that.
