New deer stand
#1
I posted pics of my new deer stand in my photos. It sure was nice when it was pouring rain last weekend when my son and I were sitting there. It is my sons first year so I thought I would bring him in in comfort until he gets hooked and then he has to sit somewhere else. He hasn't got a deer yet, But our party has gotten 5 bucks and a doe so far and seen 2 huge bucks without getting a shot at them. Hunting has actually been kind of slow where I hunt in Minnesota compared to other years. Has anyone else been hunting in Minnesota this year and found it rather slow at the beginning??

Thanks Cobra........Thunderbolt....very nice . We have a 4' square stand. Head level is about 20'. This is my 11 yr olds 3rd year to hunt. I am considering letting him hunt on his on this year. He is very mature for 11. I would take him to one of these big stands(where he cant fall out if he falls asleep) in the morning w/a radio(while I hunt a 1/4 mile away) and pick him up 3-4 hrs later. He is excited about the thought of being on his own, but his mother has the final say...lol... here is a pic of the homemade stand Stands
Good luck and if he harvests a deer, please post some pics!

Wow thats cool he is hunting at 11. At what age can you start hunting there. In Pa we have to be 12, and I couldnt get in a safty course in time so I had to wait till I was 13. So instead of my 5th year out instead of my 6th.

As long as you can pass the "hunter education" course, you can hunt here in Oklahoma. He took it around his 8th b-day, and I bought him a new Rem 700 youth in .243 caliber for his 9th b-day. He hunted that year and shot at 2 does but didnt hit them. Last year he harvested his buck and doe during rifle season. This coming spring we will both get bows

Thanks for the compliments. I will definately post pics if he gets a deer. You have to be twelve to hunt big game in Mn or I would have had him out last year. My stand is 4x4 also, but I wish I would have extended the roof out more similar to okiedudes becuse the rain runs off the roof and drips in a little. I am going to put a drip edge above the windows to stop it. The upper windows are fixed, but the lower ones can be closed when I am not there or if it is super windy I can close any one I want. I will be taking my son back out this weekend and then rifle season is over, but this year I am also hunting the muzzleloader season. I usually bow hunt, but I pulled a tendon in my arm so I have to sit that out this year. I have another stand close within 40 yards of this that I will continue to use for bow hunting. I wish you all the best of luck, but most of all just be SAFE !!

Both nice stands. We checked ours today, and cleared some small trees that were in the way of shooting lanes. The floor is in excelent condition, and the roof is also. the only problem is one of the sides has blown off in one of the wind storms so it must be nailed back on. Once we get it all fixed up I will try and post some pictures. Good luck to you all!
Edit: Wow thats cool you can take it at any age.
