A Crossman 760 is under $30.00 if you don't mind the pumping, it has plenty of power to take down your "prey"

...WOW these are all really good tips and information..!! I really like the Gamo "viper", and might order that one later in the year, and a 2nd one....I still wonder what kind of sound these make when shooting?...... I stopped at "Gander mt" and held some in my hands...very interesting..where some of these are made...I believe the gamo are made in "Spain"..winchester is made in USA...many different countrys... I have to say the web site link upnorth gave out http://www.airgundepot.com/index.html has some reasonable prices... I spoke with one of the sales person from there today.. I need to buy two !! lol one .22 and one for .177 lol ..they said in a couple of months, one mfg is coming out with a gun that comes with two barrels..one for .22 and one for .177 .. but I cant wait that long..so my choice ..after much research .. and the fact I want to be humane..( and because its on sale .. is going to be the RWS 34 ... in the .22 cal...on sale for $219.90 .. list for $390.00.on their web site.....I will upgrade the scope to a BSA high grade model..( think it was a 3/12/44 ?? ) and order it tuesday..I was suprised the RWS is made in Germany..it sure had smoooth action, when you open and close the barrel....!!. I really would like to thank all of you who took the time and responded..it was a great learning experience in the short time I posted..any tips and suggestions are still welcome and encourged..lol hey captian quint..I remember you from a couple years ago, when these boards were really "Heated" about the KQ 700 reverse issue..you were one of the more common sence, logic poster..lol ..thanks again and keep the tips, suggestions, advice coming !!

Okiedude I grew up Benjamin Sheridan air rifles. I had a Sheridan Blue Streak air rifle growing up that I probably shot thousands of squirrels and rabbits with. It was my constant companion as a little boy. It probably helped my marksmanship since it took so blasted long to load. My friends had more rapid fire bb guns and pellet rifles so that left me pumping for dear life with my Sheridan which due to it's pneumatic nature got quite difficult to pump with after the first couple of pumps. On the plus side it was more powerful and accurate than anyone else's. I became the'designated sniper' of our little neighborhood bb gun fire team if you will. We were deadly on the rat population at the dump and terrorized the whatever game was in season. I was always bringing home something for the pot that I'd slaughtered with my Sheridan. Took those oddball .20 cal or 5 mm pellets which could be terribly difficult to find. I think they have modified those Benjamin/Sheridan rifles to take scopes now. Mine was good old iron sights.

Oh, and MnTurboPaws check the triggers on those rifles if you can. Some of the triggers on those air rifles can be truly horrid. The one on my RWS was good and the one on the Gamo is fairly good and it is also adjustable.

Ever thought of getting some sub-sonics for a .22lr? They are quiet and would get rid of your chipmonk and squirrels pretty easy.

Last time the Cummins tool truckload sale came through town, I picked up one of those "chinese" single shot pellet rifles for $19.99. Something like 850 fps. One pump on the lever, one shot. Seems to do the trick on my backyard gophers! Check them out!

I shoot a bullet called Aguila Super Colibri In my .22. It has no gun powder in it.It shoots With a real strong primer These bullets shoot around 600FPS It makes almost no sound. My pellet gun is actually louder. My ruger .22 only costs around 100.While decent pellet guns are around 200 and up.
As for cb bb's and cb shorts they are bullets made by CCI for the .22. I also shoot the CCI cb long,Its a little louder but still quiet for a .22. It shoots around 1000fps
