need help on hunting racks

I am looking for a good gun and bow rack for my atv. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good ones and where I can get it from. I heard they have a such thing as a gun and bow rack built into one. I don't know where I can get it. Any suggestions on which kind and where I can get it from.

Go to www.cabelas.com, look under "atv accessories", or whatever the heading is-they have a bunch of atv stuff, and a few different styles of gun/bow racks or holders. FinGrip makes a pretty good one, as do a few other companies, but the names are slipping my mind at the moment. A word of caution though-I have a single-gun, gun rack on the rear of my 'Cats rack-the U-shaped kind with the rubber stretchy things. It works great, for holding guns, but I use mine for carrying a shovel for work up at the ranch-that's why it's in the rear. DO NOT carry your rifle back there, as the mud and debris will totally cover the rifle and scope if not covered. My buddy wouldn't listen to me about that, we went to go shooting, he pulled up on something and not only was his stock covered in dripping mud, but both ends of his scope were one solid mud ball-live and learn right! heh heh heh-damn kids! Anyway, I'd recommend if you go this route, installing it either on the front rack, or even on the handlebars, as it is better protected from mud and other debris. -I don't think mud in the cams does much good on a bow either!
Best of Luck, and HAPPY HUNTING!!!

After having used several types of open gun racks, I have gone to simply carrying my rifle in a sling across my chest. They just seem to take a beating when resting anywhere on my ATV, which makes me worry about my scope. However, a have heard from a lot of hunters who are satisfied with their "Gun Boot" setup. The Gun Boot makes use of a sealed case with heavy padding to protect the gun from shock. I guess the main reason I haven't gotten one is because I don't like a lot of bulky items hanging off my ATV. I also feel it could be a hassle to keep the thing clean.
It too is available from Cabela's if you're interested.

Springdrl-
I agree, carrying across my chest is about the best way I've found-your arms kind of "protect" the gun from getting banged around, nothing to worry about with the scope either. Not exactly fun in hard technical riding, but still better than getting beat up elsewhere.

I took ya'll advice and went to cabelas.com. I found an item called Single Fin Grip Pro Series for 24.99. It holds a gun and a bow. It looks like it would hold the bow very well, but I don't know about the gun. I'd like to hear what ya'll think about it and the price.
Thanks again

COWBOY,
I seen you pics, they are great. I have one question for you, what kind of tires do you have, and do they pull good in the mud. I'm just wondering because my cousin has a cat and is looking for some good all around tires. He was thinking of some titian 589's, but he is undecided.
Thanks

Thanks! I'm running 27x9.75x12 Bi Claws up front, with 27x12x12 Tri Claws in the rear. Got them from www.highlifter.com-great people to work with! They do awesome in the mud-wish I had some good mud pic's up for ya, but again, developer lost them. I'll have some more after this coming elk season. They might worry you at first, as they "pull" you into the mud, where on the stockers, you'd be stuck for sure. Yet, once in the deep stuff, give a little gas, they "head 'em up and move 'em out!" You'd be amazed at what these things do, they are a great tire, I will definately buy them again. On hardpack, they ride surprisingly smooth above 4-5mph. Below that, you get the "up and down" movement of the huge lugs, but again, get moving just a little bit, you'll really be surprised at how smooth they are. The pictures of the snow are between 2-3' deep on average. The 'Cat never found the bottom, the 'Claws just kept pulling me through, dragging skid plate and all. I tried getting a couple pictures of me actually towing the suburban up the hill, which is actually a lot steeper than it looks. Dad kept putting it over the edge, I had to tow him back up on top, then up the hill in over 2' of snow, it was really impressive. If your buddy is looking for a great mud tire that will ride really well in nearly all conditions, that would be a great choice. I love mine. In comparing to the 589's, I'd venture to say the 'Claws ride a HAIR smoother, because of the lug spacing on the 589's-it's pretty far apart, and on the 'Claws, every other crosses centerline pretty well, keeping it more smooth. In the mud, the 'Claws pull better. The 589's are a great all around tire though that do great in the mud as well-lots of happy customers anyway. One thing to consider about the 'Claws-they actually measure taller than claimed heigth. At recommended psi, mine measure 27 1/4-27 1/2" tall! Unusual, as most tires measure smaller than claimed heigth, so the ground clearance gain with the 'Claws is awesome!
As for your fin grip, yeah, that was the one I was thinking of. That price is about what you'll pay everywhere I think. Cabela's is a great company to do business with though-their customer service is excellent, if you ever have any questions or comments, send them an email, they'll get right back to you pretty much that same day with an answer, if not, they'll at least let you know they're working on it, then get back to you a day or two later. Good return policy too if need be.
Best of Luck!

Gun across your chest on an ATV? That wouldn't fly here in MN. All firearms must be cased and unloaded while in transport, whether it is an ATV or a Truck. I thought this was pretty much the norm across the US,....but as I am seeing here that very well may not be.

Dodo, I have the dual fin grip pro gun holder, it does hold guns pretty well and can be adjusted to hold a bow with a large screwdriver in a few seconds. I too have this mounted on the back rack of my cat and am considering moving it to the handle bars. I saw an adapter mount in cabelas fall 2001 master catalog that allows you to use the fin grip pro single or double to the handle bars. Good luck!
