Crossbows-???
#12
Missouri is the same way as Vermont. If you want to hunt during the archery season with a crossbow, you must get a note from a doctor and a special permit. During the gun season in November though, anyone can hunt with a crossbow.

I have a crazy [rich] uncle that bowhunts exclusively with a crossbow-'bad back you know'-and he can pay off a doctor. Anyway all that aside, He's shooting some european import custom job anymore, BUT he's got experience with many other models-
Barnett quad 300 (good rugged utility bow, tracked-use half moons or flat caps, accurate, fast, lousy "lumpy" trigger, but brings in the meat**** 300$)
Proline, out of business (OK accuracy and speed, TMH rest, don't hold up for long either, the Best trigger 500$+ **)
Top of the line Bear(are they out of business??)Just about the same as the barnett, but slower and three point TMH rest with nocks,( this thing has a giant folding leaf for some fun long range shooting out of the box, could bomb 55 gallon drums at 220 yards and hit them with the leaf up ) ***
Horton Top of the line ( Maybe they have improved their speed? moderately accurate, Heavy but smooth trigger-if they have tweeked a few things since I last shot their TOL bow this could be a 5* winner, otherwise on par with the bear. )
I hear PSE's piece is okay, but what about the giant limb savers??? Oh yah they might be an advantage-the deer will be chuckling at the bow that looks like a giant fly.
Closing notes: No crossbow shoots many bolts without work, that's just the way it is with the modern compound stressed crossbows. On tracked bows the strings wears through the serving slowly. One dry fire WILL tear something up( unlike with a regular bow where a dry fire might cause problems. Things you will need a string for every 300 shots or so, a new set of limbs for every thousand shots or so, limbs for barnetts are 48$(just done that again), bears limbs are 88$, the prolines are the only other ones that don't gather dust, just because they are so dambed sweet to shoot compared, but not real practical. And if Horton is on to something with the improved and faster bows don't overlook them.
edit added- just for kicks, these things have a suprizing kick, not as much as a 30-30, but enough to put a scope into your eyebrow if your not watching out.

In Nebraska, anyone can hunt deer with a crossbow during the usual 9 day hunting season, with a 2 tag limit.
If you get a note from your doctor that you are of 'special needs' you can use a crossbow during the 23 day bow season (which also includes muzzelloader season). If you can get the 'disabled' hunter designation, you have all sorts of perks. You can shoot pheasants on the ground-out the window of your viechle, can shoot turkeys off the road, etc.
Crossbows can also be used during regular season for turkeys, also.
About the only restriction is a 150+ lb. draw weight for both deer and turkeys. Again, if you are disabled, the weight restrictions are lessened to some extent.

If your really interested in huntin with a crossbow and ya want to talk about it let me know. I did all the leg work this fall and learned a lot about em. I'm no expert but I did my homework. All Xbows are not the same. As a matter of fact it may suprise ya what works the best. IMHBAO? Puddin is right been doin a bunch of huntin with my Xbow. Its an awesome bow. Taken two deer with two bolts. Quick clean kills. Never knew what hit em.
