adding a remote electric start to my generator?
#1
O.K. I'm an electrical idiot but I would like to make a remote electric start for a my generator.
I wanna put my generator out in my shed and and be able to start it from inside the camp.
The generator isn't electric start now but I wanna try to make it that way remotely. Can I do this and does anyone have any tricks, tips, or suggestions?
I would appreciate any help that I can get.

I'm sure it can be done. Look in a JCWhitney catalog and buy one of the wireless starter kits they sell, I think they're around 30-40$. But first you need to add a starter to your gen. I'm not positive on how it would hook up to it without the schematic for the unit. But I'm sure this could be done. The one thing you might need to think about is if it is easy to start or not. The other thing which would stop you, is most of them that I've seen have a manual choke. If you can not buy a electric or automatic choke for it I probably wouldn't attempt it, although if you could instal a small soleniod on the manual choke line or attach it to the carburetor so you could actuate it remotely also.
Just some food for thought. If you do still try to do it I'll try to help you out with the wiring if I can.

If you can add a starter to you generator then you can remote start it with the proper set up.You have to have some kind of start disconnect to turn the starter off after the engine is running or it will burn the starter up. A relay that picks up on ac build up should work.
