I shot a little 5pt buck and i gutted him out and threw him on the back of my little timberwolf 250 4x2 and she struggled alittle bit to haul that 160 lbs but she made it outta the woods and back home. My advice is to make sure the dang deer is strapped on there good (mine fell off and i had to put it back on there by myself, wow that took a long time)

I have been seeing a HUGE blackbear while riding up in the mountains where I ride. I have seen him 3 times now. Bear season just opened and I am wondering if there is anyway to get this bear from his home (10 miles from where my truck can get) to my truck. Would you just hook on to it and drag it? The bear has to be close to 450 LBS.

wow, thats a big bear. since you have a big bear atv then i think you could just tie a rope around its neck (make sure its gutted out) and put it in 1st gear and just go slow with it. you should be fine........good luck

Hopefully I will get a chance to try it out. It is the largest bear I have ever seen. Chances are when I go back up with a rifle I won't be able to find it. You cannot bate them in Washington State (its illegal). I will let ya know if I get a chance at him though.

Just a thought that might help. Cabelas sells an item called a deer sleigh'r, or similar. It's a thick-heavy duty plastic sheep to wrap around game to give a smooth dragging surface. It should help with a heavy drag. The magnum size is supposed to fit an elk and costs about $25. I'd tell you how they work but I got skunked last year.

Do not tow a bear 10 miles without a trailer or something suitable underneath it. Do you know what a bear would look like after dragging him 10 miles? An honest 450lbs is a huge black bear and too much weight to get on an ATV rack. There are bears that big in Washington, but bears also tend to look bigger than they really are. If the bear is smaller, try and get it on the rear rack and tie it down well with rope. You can have a buddy help you lift it, or back up to a spot where you can drag it on.

I dont know if it is for sure 450 lbs, but it is larger than 350, cause We have shot a couple that big. I wouldnt worry about it so much, but if its 90 degrees out I dont want to be there ALL day trying to get it out. A trailer would be a good idea. Could you imagine rolling it for 10 miles? Could you put it on the seat and walk beside the quad?

95ramtough,
I have shot many deer from northern missouri and have hauled them on many different atvs. Last year I shot a 8 pt buck that dressed out at over 200 lbs and put him on the front rack of a prairie 300 4x4 and had no problems. Look at Cabelas and Bass Pro as they also make game trailers that I am sure you can modify to pull anything you want out of the woods. I think the back rack would hold him so long as you had some counter weight up front. I am saying this because when we have to cross creeks we put one guy on the front rack and two on the back (all over 200 lbs.) and have had no problems either.

My step dad has pulled a moose out of a swamp with our old 1994 kawasaki bayou 4x4. He has also had a big 10 point buck on the front rack and 2 people on it. Atv's are the best thing for hunting(besides a gun...lol) because they just make it so much eaiser to get places.
Some good advice is if you plan to drag whatever you shoot. Tie it down as low as possible to keep the front end on the ground.
