Call it ranting, I guess...

Or maybe more like frustration....
I'm not sure of the hunting and fishing laws in all your states, but I'd be willing to bet it's not just the state of Oregon that is trying to decrease the big game harvest as much as they possibly can.
This weekend was opening elk, rifle, for our area....It's getting to the point that, sure, the state wants you to go ahead and spend the money on licenses and tags, but then once you have spent the money, try and find someplace to hunt! Sorry, closed, you can't go there! Your options are; a very small green dotted area, crawling with a bizillion people with attitudes and a high-powered firearm in their hands, or knowing someone with private land. To top it off, a huge area that was supposed to be (and is still marked as such) a green dot, was gated because of some greenie sitting in the top of a tree in the middle of a timber sale!!! (insert scream here) The entire 14 mile section was gated for his/her protection!!!! What a crock!!
On top of that, my husband (who is kind enough to tend to the children for me while I hunt) took them to one of the trailheads, in OUR National Forest, to see a beautiful waterfall. That will be $5 please!!!! $5 to take a peak at the land that belongs to US, the land that we pay taxes for the maintenance thereof!
I have fond childhood memories of hunting with my family...by the time my children will be able to hunt, that activity will be a thing of the past, I'm afraid. It strengthens my conviction to help wherever possible to try and preserve our rights to hunt, ride through, and enjoy this land that we live in. Most of the time it seems like a losing battle, but ya still gotta try.
I'm done whining now...

There doesn't seem to be any quick answers. For that matter I'm not sure there is a viable answer period.
My cure for the greenie you mention we won't even discuss! These idiots spike trees, spike trails, interrupt hunting and trailriding, and still seem to get their way even though they're too illeducated to understand the facts of reality. Right now the main things I can think of to help folks like us are support the GOA, NRA, and vote republican, as weak as this sounds. Public land is no longer public. Private land is no longer private. If you find any good answers let us all know.

take a trip to oklahoma! we've got so many deer that they opened up a second rifle season in january! as for your greenie, i've got a few solutions of my own. the same thing is happening to our parks too. they just recently closed down the cool half of the trails around the lake I ride, and upped the permit fee to ride there!!!!!! good luck!
