Atv with high torque at low speeds?
#1
I need a new 4x4 atv, the large ones look good but do they pull good at low speeds or just have better top end/speed? What would be
a good farming/hunting Atv with good low speed torque?

you need an Arctic Cat. they are all around great except for top speed.
the only thing is the stock tires would have to be changed but get the dealer to do it before you buy it.
make it part of the deal.

If you want solid torque at low speeds with less maintenance, I would go with the conventional auto-clutch with manual shift. Most of the automatics make use of a centrifugal drive belt mechanism that requires a higher rpm to match the torque of a multi-plate auto-clutch. Of course you'll have to change gears manually. However, clutch plates will take a lot more beating before needing replacement than a belt-driven auto.
Automatics are great if you're looking for the most convenient ride. It sounds as if you might be looking for more of the tractor-type performance of the well-proven and durable auto-clutch.
Let me add too that I would put the long term, high torque performance of a 400cc auto-clutch against the largest automatic that you can buy.

I will have to agree on the Big Bear that first gear could pull a house down!!

i agree with the big bear, but also have a good look at the honda formans, 450 or 400. even with no low range they have tons of low end torqe. they will spin out before they power out!
